Extraordinary case where the courts failed two children

the most appalling story of incompetence This is an incredible case where the courts jailed an innocent boy for abusing his sister and then, when it came out she'd fibbed, jailed her. FFS, they both seem to have been about 11yo (not entirely clear from the story), what on earth were the various social workers and judges thinking?

Appalling, but not very surprising.

What stands out strongly is not just the absurdity of criminal responsibility which the Guardian report focuses on, but how low the level of proof needed is, to convict someone of a crime.

How come the boy was convicted? What evidence, apart from the girl's statement, was submitted to the court?

Good questions, LB.

What gets me is that when they realised the conviction of the boy was wrong, they turned round and did it again to the girl! Rather than thinking 'hmm, fucked up here, how do we sort this out?'

Dreadful.
