The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

Thank you @Jasminealive

Do you have any idea why it's mostly men?

I'm going to guess a combination of:

  • Women end up looking after the kids whilst the father fucks off to do what he likes.
  • Women are more likely to avoid events with a potential to turn violent because we are weaker and come off worse in a ruckus.
  • Some of the men were there in the hope of a punch-up against counter-demonstrators. Women tend not to seek out fights.

I saw a great many flags, to whit union flags, saltires, an Irish tricolour, the dragon of Wales, some English flags and the Iranian lion flag. Quite a mixed bag of people who are not very happy with what is happening. Hard to call them all right wing and racists - were the Iranians racist? (Well, they might be, I haven't met those on the march, but in general?) Quite a jump to assume all these people are right wing racists rather than people worried that the UK is not condemning the murderers of Tehran, is allowing unpapered young men into the country, that the government calls those asking for an inquiry into the grooming gangs racists (and no sign this inquiry is happening yet), and has ignored those upset that their towns and neighbourhoods have changed out of recognition and no-one voted to allow this and called them racists as well.

We have had too much immigration in the last 15 years so that people have not been able to assimilate into the host culture (which is the only way that immigration works), our infrastructure (already hollowed out by neo-liberal private is best policies) is creaking to the point of breaking, while wages stagnate and those at the bottom see the jobs they can do having wages undercut to the advantage of employers but not to the benefit of the rest of us.
No wonder people march under their flags. I like the union flag - it's mine - and I am entirely tired of being told that to like it or like my country and its history (neither better nor worse than any other history) makes me a racist (and me with two dual-heritage DC, too).
Starmer's managerial technocracy relies on process and 'managing' things, but this is not how you run a country you love to the advantage and advancement of its people.

Flags combined with a strong anti-Muslim vibe and anti-Semitism

Yes, same. I'd venture a guess that we pay more in tax in a year than most of these people pay in their entire lives. I'm generally happy to pay into supporting the country we live in, but I wish I could specify that not a penny should go to propping up those who think they're better than others just because, through the luck of the draw, they were born here.

How racist. You know nothing of the people on the Unite the Kingdom march (some of whom were Iranians, for I saw the lion flag flying, and they were very likely not born here) and you don't seem very invested in the kingdom either. The people marched for Alfred and Ethandun, for Arthur, for Harold and William the Bastard, for Magna Carta and King Cnut (and his waves) and the Provisions of Oxford, for the Act of Settlement and the Bills of Right (2, one English, one Scots), for the flowers of the forest and the anti-slavery movement, for trades unionism and the Red Flag, to remember that governments should not seek windows into men's and women's souls, for the Civil War and the overthrow of tyrants, for the Pretenders who failed, that crofters should have rights, to remember Boudicca and her daughters...
Any of it ring a bell with you?

Jewish people are white also

Not in the eyes of those marchers, nor in the eyes of the Third Reich. To a lesser extent, ditto the Irish when my great-grandparents moved over here, and ditto the Roma to this day.

Someone can have pale skin and still be very much not white in terms of experiencing social and State-imposed racism.

For the avoidance of doubt: the word "Zionist" was the anti-Semitic bit. There is a conspiracy theory that Jews are engineering an invasion of majority-white countries by brown people. This conspiracy theory falls apart when you realise how many of those brown people really hate Jews, as evidenced in the Hamas attack on Israel, Bondi Beach, the Yom Kippur attack in Manchester, and Golders Green.

I agree @EvangelicalAboutButteredToast It went fine. Some people won't like to admit this though, and won't admit that not all people who are proud to be British, are massive uneducated bigoted racists. Some of them are well educated, sensible people who welcome diversity. They simply want British born people putting FIRST.

Lol well-educated, sensible people who welcome diversity but are just proud to be British dont flock to Tommy Robinson marches.

How would that look on a day to day basis? So if you or any of your children moved abroad you would be happy to put your head down, apologise for existing, not get maternity pay, not get tax credits, not get childcare subsidy. How would you live? Seriously think about it. People need to live a normal life, wherever they are. If you want immigrants to be second class citizens it's just ridiculous. I hope one of your kids moves countries so you can see how it feels.

Starmer has made such a huge mistake in calling ordinary British people, of all backgrounds, 'far right thugs'. It's astonishing that the person elected to represent them gives the appearance of thinking of the British public with contempt. If people feel unheard, it's his job to ask why and then listen, not dismiss and insult them. I hope the march remains peaceful.

His moment with a basket of deplorables?

Not for the enclosures act, Henry VIII, Bloody Mary, Oliver Cromwell, slavery, the highland clearances, witch burning and imperialism then?

The immigrant paying taxes invests in Britain's future, which is infinitely more valuable than reciting a litany of our past glories.

summershere99 · 17/05/2026 00:04

This whole British-born people first thing: what about a woman from the Caribbean who came 50 years ago and has worked as a nurse all that time. She wasn’t born here so I’m guessing she shouldn’t get access to the NHS, her pension, decent housing? Compare that to my neighbour with his St George’s cross out front who’s barely worked a day in his life and his family are all on benefits. But , you know, he was BORN here! He’s white! Therefore he should be entitled to whatever all those British-born fanatics deem he’s missing out on. Brilliant.

One of the things that made me proud to be British was the public outcry about the deportation of Windrush immigrants who had been invited to come here to help rebuild after WW2.

I say this completely innocently, and I am genuine.. I do not live in England.

Why are British people offended or ashamed by other British people taking to their capital to protest about their issues with the government? Be that the current PM, NHS shortages, illegal immigration.

It appears to scream of middle class looking down on the working class because they “don't have to worry, we don’t need NHS appointments, NHS dental treatments”

Ireland are standing up too, the housing system is broken, the homeless situation is unbelievable. Private rentals are extortionate, people cannot afford to live and support their families.

Obviously large scale protests are not seen as effective here on this forum but you’re obviously all well educated enough to dismiss and diminish the working class so what exactly are the suggestions?

I’m ashamed by the ones who refer to all none-whites as “illegals” or “boat people”. Because this is exactly what people in my area call anyone who is not white.

I am from, and still live in a predominantly white, ex-mining working class town. Our lampposts are donned with cheap nylon England flags, held up with plastic cable ties, that are now dirty and total eye sores. I went to school with a couple of the lads who put them up. These weren’t put up to be patriotic and “proud” of our area. These people aren’t proud. I never see them out litter picking, helping at our food banks, getting involved with community events or attending councillors surgery meetings.

A couple of miles down the road is a Holiday Inn. In August 2024 it was set on fire, and police officers were attacked outside by a bunch of “patriot” knuckle draggers who want to “protect our children” but put local children in danger and scared them by their actions on that day and how they set fires, threw missiles around the local housing estate where the hotel is situated.

On our local Facebook group, someone arranged a coach to take anyone who wanted to attend today’s UTK March to London. Here’s some of the comments on that post:

“Palestinians have no place here”

“Be a reyt show this. Fuk being peaceful” (Reyt = right)

MPs are causing all this allowing them on our shores, placing them anywhere but on their doorstep. It’s surely coming to point of civil unrest”

We have the tories and Labour to thank for the diabolical security situation in the UK. No one is safe anymore particularly young girls”

Fuck off lefty scum”

What’s the coach for?” A reply: “piss up”

So yeah. This is my experience of people I know. I’m not middle class. And I certainly can’t get an NHS dentist appointment 🤣

In what way was yesterday’s march like the ones you’ve mentioned in your post? I think it was completely different because its aims were completely different.

Any sensible person knows Keir Starmer's a wanker. But being well educated often obscures you from seeing clearly.

What a pile of absolute bilge. I do hope you were laughing at yourself when you typed that.

The drunk guys draped in union jacks and the one throwing the nazi salute, following their Russian-funded leader Stephen-six-names-resident-in-Spain, were definitely all about embracing their Iranian brothers and marching for Boudicca.

Adding, without immigration, this already dying country, thanks to Brexit and Tory austerity, is dead.
