It is ridiculous that it takes so long for criminal cases to come to trial these days. That is part of the government's justification for removing the right to jury trial for many offences. However, removing that right won't make any real difference, contrary to what the government say. The only solution is to spend more on the criminal justice system, something which all recent governments have been reluctant to do.
