This seems to have come from nowhere- have I missed something or is Trump just looking for a way to distract from the Epstein issue?

Evidence beyond ‘it’s an oil rich country’?

Trump being Trump? i mean really that's all any of us need to know! When someone consistently shows you who they are you should believe them. Oh and have you asked yourself why he keeps threatening Greenland?

So none, basically? Is this like Brexit means Brexit?

aaah bless, glad he has one fan anyway, is that you JD?

I’ll try find the clip but I’m sure Trump has talked about taking oil from countries they invade before.

It’s not surprising. He’d move a large portion of the US navy to the region to cause regime change. If Maduro didn’t voluntarily step down then what could they do? Giving up and moving the fleets away would look weak in lots of people’s eyes.

Evidence beyond ‘it’s an oil rich country’?

Here’s a clue

“Trump says US will be 'very strongly involved' in Venezuela oil industry
The United States is going to be “very strongly involved” in Venezuela’s oil industry after the operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, President Donald Trump told Fox News on Saturday.
He said:
We have the greatest oil companies in the world, the biggest, the greatest, and we’re going to be very much involved in it.

Greenwitchart · 03/01/2026 15:03

fartoomuchtoblerone · 03/01/2026 12:47

This. Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world. Trump wants them and he doesn’t care a bit about democratic process or international law.

Exactly.

Everexpanding · 03/01/2026 15:04

More evidence

the Maduro regime has consistently said Trump was ultimately after Venezuela’s oil.

The US president acknowledged that this was part of his goals several weeks ago, when the US seized the first oil tanker and Trump announced a “total blockade” of sanctioned vessels, saying it would remain in place until Venezuela “returned” to the US “all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us”.

He later said: “We had a lot of oil there. As you know, they threw our companies out, and we want it back,”

Trump, Putin, and Netanyahu, 3 dangerous men with far too much power (and yes I know they aren’t the only ones), showing the world they will stoop to any kind of horrific behaviour for personal gain and greed. It’s interesting to see how these three are drawn to each other. It’s recipe for absolute disaster for the world. We are in dangerous times indeed.

Trump removing a dictator who has flooded his country with drugs resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, children and law enforcement while costing a fortune in prison and medical care. All else has failed.

No that’s the excuse, the real reason is the oil.

Everyone said the invasion of Iraq was about oil but that never materialised

Neither did the weapons of mass destruction...

Gingernaut · 03/01/2026 16:13

Fracking, which is taking it's toll on the surrounding environment, produces light crude

A huge portion of the USA's refinery infrastructure is geared towards processing heavy crude oil

Light crude has to be shipped out to external refineries and shipped back at great expense

Venezuela has massive fields of heavy crude, which can be sent to the USA and the profits will probably going to the billionaire owners of oil companies

Trump is Jesus Christ bonkers and he and his fellow billionaires have enough money to insulate themselves from the garbage dump they are in the process of reducing the world to

lanadelgrey · 03/01/2026 16:17

It’s a carve up of the world: Trump gets South America, Putin gets however much of Ukraine and former Soviet states he thinks he can control, Xi takes Taiwan and Israel with US gets Palestine and help keeping Iran off its back.

It just sounds smart to them.

They can’t imagine that GWB really did think they could just plant a liberal democracy in the Middle East, or that Trump really believes in the Monroe Doctrine (crucial that it happened just before they were to sign some agreements with China?)

Oneforallandallforone · 03/01/2026 16:32

Of course it’s about oil. As is Greenland.

Will the Chinese yuan continue to take on the dollar? Will China be the US’s downfalll?

Abra1t · 03/01/2026 16:39

Solving Ukraine was getting boring and too complicated.

Indeed.

RoamingToaster · 03/01/2026 17:01

The drug argument doesn’t make sense. It’s a stupider pretence than Iraq as it’s easier to check where the drugs come from that enter the USA than supposedly secretive weapons of mass destruction.

I can believe some like George W believed he could liberate Iraq and didn’t care about the oil but Trump has said on numerous occasions that they should have taken the oil in Iraq. He’s transactional. He’ll want to be reimbursed for the cost of the operation by taking money from Venezuela plus interest.

It’s fentanyl which causes the most problems in the USA. That’s not from Venezuela. The cocaine that comes from Venezuela isn’t produced there. It’s a drug transport hub more than anything. It’s not the way to address the drug issue and not the country which causes the most problems. The cocaine will still be produced in Colombia and find a new way to enter the USA.

Crikeyalmighty · 03/01/2026 17:04

My view is he wants to keep this going and then declare he can’t have mid terms as oh they are at war - oh and the oil of course - they have a type that the US don’t - so much for democracy - the Venezuelan gvt are no saints and are dodgy too but that doesn’t give Trump a right to go invading somewhere

Happy to concede.

Still not upset at his removal though.

Thanks for all this information. I always look on here when there are things going on in the world as it gives a range of views about what is going on. Most of my political and world knowledge comes from this site!!

Of course the USA don’t have the ‘right’ but does this man have the ‘right’ to continue his dictatorship where he is untouchable in oppressing his people? The Venezuelans are dancing in the streets, I think it’s very arrogant to post sad faces and ‘but what about international law’ when the actual population are pleased.

Oneforallandallforone · 03/01/2026 18:14

It Is not about drugs.

‘We're going to have our very large United States oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country, and we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so," he said.
