Prince William - is he in the Navy, the Army or the Airforce????

Just noticed he's been given a navy posting out in the Caribbean but has he also not just gotten his wings and did he not serve in the army too?

Do the royals serve with all forces?

think the prince of wales does a stint with all of them, for historic reasons what I cannot currently recall, sorry!

sillybillybee · 31/05/2008 22:08

IIRC it's so that he knows the ins and outs of all of the armed forces for when he takes over from Prince Charles as head of the armed forces, something like that lol. In answer to your has he not just got his wings, yes he did that I know for certain (not far away from me).

WendyWeber · 31/05/2008 22:10

It's the air force atm (hence the wings)

WendyWeber · 31/05/2008 22:11

And he was at Sandhurst before.

So I guess he'll do a navy stint in a buit

(Prince Andrew was a navy flier IIRC which killed 2 birds)

WendyWeber · 31/05/2008 22:11

I don't know what a buit is....

in a bit

SaintGeorge · 31/05/2008 22:16

S buit is probably in the region of 36 hours or so Wendy, since he is due to start his navy service on Monday

SaintGeorge · 31/05/2008 22:17

S? A

Damn keys too close together when you are eating a sticky doughnut at the same time as typing.

DumbledoresGirl · 31/05/2008 22:17

I wonder if he gets to keep all the uniforms and what he does with them...

tiredemma · 31/05/2008 22:20

Perks of the job eh?
Wonder who sorted out his posting?-
"hmm lets see- out in the West Indies or on a sub at the bottom of teh Baring sea"

Whizzz · 31/05/2008 22:24

I think he does a bit of pick'n mix - fly your mates round in a helicopter for a bit, then a nice cruise in the Caribean...

WendyWeber · 31/05/2008 22:25

lol, StG

How come he gets to go to the Caribbean without doing Dartford or wherever it is first?

WendyWeber · 01/06/2008 11:45

Ah - he's only going for 2 months

"Then, of course, there's the navy's "army", the Royal Marines. This is the notoriously hard fighting force which William's uncle, Prince Edward, attempted to join in the 1980s. After a couple of months Edward found that the physical hardships of the training course were not to his liking. He left the Marines for a career in the theatre."

Ooooooh, Nicholas, you bitch

MsDemeanor · 01/06/2008 11:48

He's not really getting to see what life in the forces is like though is he? Couldn't see them letting him loose in a eurofighter for example, or living in a junior ranks mQ with an electric system that rips when you plug anything in. I bet his salary and leave and allownaces don't get cocked up by JPA.
I bet all the equipment he gets issued with works

Well as it happens I have been to Dartford, Little...and I know a bit about the Devon coast...and you are our resident naval expert so I knew you'd be right in there...

He's meant to be head of the whole shebang isn't he, so he gets to drive a tank, fly the chinook(sp?) to a stag do, and now he also gets to sail a ship. So he can say when he's king, he is head of all of it legitimately as he knows how to muck in and do everything....

scaryteacher · 02/06/2008 23:31

It'll be interesting to see how he copes with being on a submarine as opposed to a target!
