I can't think it will make much of a difference to the price of fish!

The idea that Cleverly is some sort of Tory big beast brought back to strengthen the shadow front bench is a bit of a joke.

Other than Sir James though I don't recognise the other names - therein lies the Tories problem, or one of them.

Shifting the deckchairs on the Titanic. Cleverly might be better vs Rayner. We shall see but only politics nerds listen in to parliament. He’s got different views to Badenoch and I prefer his version of the Conservatives but Badenoch will end up trying to outdo Reform and lurch right. Cleverly isn’t keen on that. But he’s no great Tory in waiting.

I really don’t think anyone who isn’t either a saddo politics nerd (like me) or a journalist who is paid to write about politics will notice or care about this reshuffle.

The Tories ran out of road at the last election, nobody under 50 votes for them and Farage is currently eating them alive. Cleverly may be regarded as a good media performer and a decent, moderate chap but he isn’t going to turn the party’s fortunes around.

Cleverly has more charisma than Badenoch and Rishi. But he is still the same old mould of Cameron/May/Rishi, claim to be conservative but not really.
