Horrible as it sounds why had her father not noticed, what about her extended family, the neighbours. IMO they are as equally guilty of being neglectful as the mother. Would you not say anything if you saw your next door neighbours kids get thin and ill. I bloody well would, even if I could not face the parents then I would at least phone social services. the poor lass she must of been so scared and sad, what a way to spending your last days, scared, hungry and alone.

She had a biological father, where was HE!

why hadnt the school noticed that these kids had been away from school for so long and reported it? ppl should be able to get away with such things these days.

there was a story in my local paper recently where a young girl was systematically beaten to death over the course of months a nieghbour had noticed that the little girl was always peering out of an upstairs window still dressed in pj's everday so she called social services who visited once and warned the mum that she must start taking the child to school, she attented school for one week, ss never followed up on the case despite the fact the child still wasnt in school and three months later she was dead.

something more needs to be done to protect these poor kids

Blandmum · 21/05/2008 21:11

there is another thread on this. According to a poster on that thread the child had been withdrawn from school for 3 months to be home educated

tiredemma · 21/05/2008 21:12

Home Ed apparently.

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 21/05/2008 21:15

i thought it sadi the neighbour thought the kids where eatting the bread that was put out for the birds

ifso why didnt she report it?

those poor kiddies

lilyloo · 21/05/2008 21:18

Not sure you could report that milk goddess , SS not saying if the family is known to them.
Am that a whole family had been living in a boarded up house and no one noticed

tiredemma · 21/05/2008 21:19

Its always the same old story isnt it?

Neighbours thought 'something funny was going on'

Social services confirm that the 'family was known'

Inquiry reports that 'lessons will be learnt'

Its all a load of bollocks, What a tragic waste of a young childs life.

charliecat · 24/05/2008 18:36

Why is the grandmother blaming social services?

Because ss are useless and it's their JOB to protect the child. They are the only ones with any authority to do something about it. The most the neighbors can do is call ss or the police.
And in my experience, having tried to report something to ss, it's a complete waste of time.
