Can anyone explain to me why this is arousing so much fuss?
It seems like a straightforward case of embezzlement to me. Am I missing something?

I think it's only because she is their version of Farage and very nearly won in the last election. Now she is barred for five years, she cannot run in the next election.

If only we could be so lucky this end.

That’s not democracy though is it? Banning the person you fear may win cause you don’t like them. We have no legal reason to ban farage

Because it looks like they found some charges they could lay against her purely so she doesn’t become the next French President.

Whether the charges are valid or not, the right will seize this as an example of jailing of political opponents.

I know that, what I meant was that it would be nice if he could be found guilty of something too, and be banned in the way that Le Pen has been. Obviously he can't just be banned for no reason.

I would like to hope that the electorate have more sense than to vote in populist rubbish, but the Brexshit vote indicates otherwise.

Still, the anarchist in me would actually like Reform to win a general election just to see what would happen. I would expect chaos, but then, that has been what we have had and continue to have in any case. Richard Tice was being interviewed on the radio the other day, it was hilarious. When pressed about details, he had none. Example:
What would be the first thing you'd do?
Ban quangos.
Which ones?
Hundreds of them.
But specifically, which ones?
There are loads.
So you can't actually say which ones. Isn't that just tapping into the populist narrative?
No.
So which ones then?

And of course, no detail was forthcoming. On any topic.

I don't do politics because quite frankly I think they are all slippery self serving power hungry liars. This ruling does hit me as very convenient to certain interests though, shall we say.
