What's the story here? Seen a Facebook post that they've got a high court injunction do stop disciplining

What's the catfishing part?? What did she do??

I don't think they have any evidence that she did anything tbh. Not that I can see. It seems to be all insinuation and gossip. But some GAA lads with hurty feelings are more important than a women's career.

It's not clear the woman identified as being the 'catfish' has done anything at all. She's denied it. The injunction is to temporarily stop the Principal of the school she teaches at initiating a disciplinary process. She says it's been conducted after a deeply flawed school investigation because of public attention and parental pressure. She says the principal says she told him she was the catfish, but that she had only ever said she was the person being speculated about, not that she was responsible for the catfishing.

It's all based on a few podcasts by the two johnnies on Spotify. The story started in 2022. If it's true then she needs a lot of mental health help.

What is GAA?

What's the gist of the podcast?

GAA is The Gaelic Athletic Association. Governs football and hurling in Ireland.

It's an incredibly complex story but basically a girl created a maze of online profiles and catfished GAA players and some very minor local celebrities. They arranged dates but she never showed up. Some spent weeks and months messaging her.

What made the story interesting was that she created a girl love interest, her friends, their families and wider friend groups. So dozens of Insta profiles that all turned out to be fake and controlled by the one girl. It must have taken hours of her time.

A podcast came out about the Gaa catfish.

Social media outed the girl in 2022. It all was assumed to have stopped but a new podcast episode aired in January which showed she had never actually stopped, she just created new characters and kept catfishing. This time making some serious accusations about some players.

The outed girl has now taken this court case to stop herself being sacked by the school she teaches in.

There has been no proof of who the catfish actually is but some people who were catfished did actually meet her in real life. So I imagine it will be possible for the judge to determine who the catfish actually is.

Thank you, might listen to the podcasts!
Maybe coming to Netflix in a few years after the courts run their course??! I'd watch it!
