Terrified that mocking disabled people and minorities is normalised.
Terrified that classic texts can be removed from libraries overnight.
Terrified that people with secure civil service jobs who have been faithful servants of whatever part is in power, can be summarily dismissed.
Terrified that people doing this stuff claim to be Christians.
Terrified that our children are involved in more war, more civil unrest, a more uncertain world and more pollution and climate change.
That's scary enough for me!!

I know he has a Civil Service, but they normally serve the gmt of the day. Trump appoints the people like Elon Musk etc. who set the direction. For example in the UK each Department has a Perm Sec or CEO but they then have Ministers who can come in and change the direction, stop work on one area, decide what is important etc.

On Saturday, leading public health agencies appeared to have culled webpages that discussed gender, sexually transmitted diseases, and LGBT health.

CDC webpages that previously contained such data on youth, transgender and LGBT health contained "page not found" messages on Saturday morning.

Another page dedicated to "Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth" , was also not available on Saturday morning, though the page is archived by the WayBack Machine.

A page that collated data related to "Health Disparities Among LGBTQ Youth" , externalalso appears to be gone.

Meta and Amazon are scaling back their diversity programmes, joining firms across corporate America that are retreating from hiring and training initiatives criticised by conservatives, citing legal and political risks.

In a memo to staff, Meta said it was also scrapping its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts due to a "shifting legal and policy landscape".

Walmart and McDonalds are among the other firms to have made similar decisions regarding diversity efforts since Trump won re-election.

It looks like I am going to be doing a lot of boycotting now.

I was predicting him attempting to delete the 22nd amendment the day after the election.

People don’t understand/don’t care. It’s hard to understand some of this stuff and Trump focus on saying easy things.
The problem is people like @Toseland are so over focussed on one policy like LGBT going to LGB that they blind themselves to everything else with no appreciation that that one change comes with a whole bunch of bigoted policies that will subjugate all minorities.

Even Hitler would have said something reasonable. That doesn't mean anyone reasonable would support Hitler.

It isn’t ridiculous. Hitler’s rise to power was a decade in the making, not confined to the 6 years of WWll. I also recall Trump separating migrant children from their parents and interning them - that’s pretty significant. The parallels are there to see.

Yes, but the US system is very large and doesn't work quite the same way. Incoming governments might change policy or direction, but they don't change the makeup of the civil service work force. That's what Trump is doing. He is replacing a neutral workforce with partisan loyalists in positions that are not meant to be partisan.

I deliberately used the term strong rumours. No it's not fact... Yet. But it's not a long stretch from what Trump is already doing. If I had said it was fact I could understand your post but I didn't.

If things change in the US it will change cultural behaviours and attitudes across the world.

I'm sure they don't have an "end game" but there is power grab going on in the US.

For better of worse the US has had power and influence and if they drop out of everything there will be a power vacuum.

There is a lot of "what does it matter" "it won't affect us" - I find it useful to here other voices, but I feel you want to silence the discussion

I would say, looking at comments on here equating Trump to Hitler, that the end game is Trump eradicating anyone who is disabled, and anyone who identifies as LGBT, and he will then invade us all and rule the world.......

Trump is voicing interest in annexing Canada similar to Putin taking over Ukraine.
What does Trump have to do with us/Canada or the Uk? He equally could apply tariffs and want to annex your country as well.
Be aware, treaties and shared history mean nothing to him.
His country is trillions in debt he will inflict pain on everyone to help his country get out of debt, sounds fine but he’s lashing out at everyone.
Musk tweeted it will be a very difficult 2 years for the USA to bring home manufacturing and get out of financial trouble.
Fingers crossed Canada does similar.

How can anyone not be terrified by this? @SassK he's given a foreign unelected national control of the government finances including access to bank details? Imagine how he'd respond if Biden had even so much as thought about this?! Plays right to their fear mongering but if he does it they cheer him on?
Imagine combining this priceless data with say Bezos Amazon data? Maybe they'll decide which people do and do not deserve welfare payments? Horrific to imagine but look it's actually happening.

Not me. I don't shop on Amazon (although does this protect me?!?). They seem the default gift card now though ): I made a resolution to pass any Amazon gift cards I'm given to the local women's shelter though.
