Reported in the papers an American Medical Association have had to apologise for suggesting that brain dead women could be a surrogate.

The notion of consent here is bizarre

God so we really are just incubators to them

endofthelinefinally · 04/01/2025 10:13

That is hideous.

I find this difficult to be believe. An arresting headline but what was the association?

littlebilliie · 04/01/2025 10:16

I don't think it's somewhere Margaret Atwood went either with her thinking

You need to imagine more. For some - men and women - this would be the kernel of a great business idea. Or at very least an element of a (very) dystopian science fiction story.

Oh look, Handmaids Tale in life. Again.

The author of the paper is an "ethicist" and professor of philosophy. She wrote an article to explain her original paper after the backlash at the time:

Interesting concept. Wonder if there will be a limit as to how many they will be allowed to gestate before the plug is pulled. Or would it ever be pulled? After all they could be turned into "live" sex dolls once their wombs were no longer useful, just put a small curtain between their body and head like they use in caesareans. Probably would have to be done under mn referrals though, can't have the menz queuing out the door, gotta be some standards after all.

Elon Musk would probably go for this idea 🤢

I'd be surprised if it doesn't go on in China. I was watching a disturbing documentary about the trade in live transplants over there. People with no relatives are kidnapped and kept alive until they can be harvested for organs. Their bodies are then cremated.

China's organ harvesting trade unveiled by study which claims living prisoners used for transplants

In 71 cases, prisoners are said to have still been alive while they were being operated on.

I actually had to stop reading that about a third of the way through as it gave me such a sense of panic. This is utterly disturbing. I like to think noone would think of accepting a surrogate in this situation but I'm probably wrong
