The Guardian quits Elon Musk’s X after Trump victory.

Newspaper abandons account after 17 years.

They won't be the last. Good move.

A lot of people are moving to Blue sky from what I've gathered. X seems like the underbelly of society.

Good move for X, I agree.

Good for the Guardian, 11 million subscribers. Hopefully others will do the same. I’ve done the same (although admittedly won’t have the same impact 😂).

Mittens67 · 14/11/2024 06:57

Pleased to hear it.
I don’t soil myself with the contamination that is twitter under musk anymore either.

Essex Police is facing a backlash from critics, including Boris Johnson, over its investigation into Allison Pearson for allegedly stirring up racial hatred in a social media post last year.

The force has refused to give the award-winning writer details about which post on X, formerly Twitter, is being investigated, or who made the complaint against her.

The battle lines have been drawn, that is abundantly clear.

The Liberals want to exist in an echo chamber; fair enough. But they will keep being surprised by eg elections if they carry on like this.

Are you on Twitter? It's a sewer of misinformation and hate.

I'll leave you all to it, thanks.

I wasn't surprised by Trumps win. It's the people not on Twitter who were so surprised.
Don't you think it's useful to understand how other people are thinking, even if you don't agree with them? Ignoring it doesn't make it go away.

Removing one’s toys from the sandpit is rarely a shrewd move.

'Misinformation' is the well-off Left telling each other Kamala is definitely going to win and that anyone who votes for Trump is a racist, sexist bigot @hollymeetsivy

I am sad about the exodus of the Left from Twitter as I genuinely enjoy following people of all political leanings, and find it useful and interesting.

Just going somewhere else to shout liberal tropes at each other does no one any favours at all.

Drivingoverlemons · 14/11/2024 08:29

I thought it was less about the actual views of people on X and more about Elon Musk manipulating the platform for his own benefit and a stand against that but maybe I am being naive.

Can you provide a source for this please? I like Allison P and her writing but don’t use Twitter/X so haven’t heard about this.

A lot of people are moving to Blue sky from what I've gathered. X seems like the underbelly of society.

People need to be careful with Bluesky. They let the Black community down BADLY initially. They didn't make any preventions for the use of racial slurs in usernames or profiles so a ton of alt right folks turned up and made it hell for a bit. Slurs aimed at different marginalised identities also surfaced, but it was not as much as the hate aimed at the Black community. They didn't fix the issues quickly enough, and they also didn't apologise for it until they were pressured to do so.

I've been on bluesky since it was in invite only mode, so it's been through a lot of crap.

Hi, she writes for the DT.

I think it is silly of the Guardian (and I am a 'lefty'...).

It always bothers me that so many people don't understand that debating and challenging people with dodgy/dangerous views is healthier than just 'cancelling' and 'de-platforming' everything and everyone and pretending these views don't exist.

I've got no idea about Blue sky, I haven't even looked at it but that sounds absolutely appalling.

One of the reasons I don't like Twitter is because of racism. I don't care if people have different views to me, I think it's good to see how people interpret things. However the racism is off the scale.
