And? Why have you posted? Genuinely, what is your reason for bothering? Unless you are from the new site and pushing for clicks?

Surely it’s a news report, what’s wrong with sharing here? Admittedly the express isn’t the best, but it doesn’t completely make up entire articles I don’t think?

I have friends and family (sister BIL, etc) who live in France.

My hubby just called me to check if they are okay.

He's always super concerned - about incidents happening in the UK, US - and in France.

A family member was caught up in 911 - so there is a reason why.

OP posts:
GoingRoundThatBlockAgain · 04/11/2024 11:05

None of which was in the OP, hence it seemed odd to me. Hope your people are well away from the incident. I still think it’s a bit strange, even if you have people in the area or your DH is interested - I’d use other ways to discuss it with him/them than a MN post.

I’d ask the same about any post sharing a ‘bad news’ event as they strike me as vulture like in sharing bad news. Not saying that was OP’s motivation. But I always wonder when I see such posts. I do usually scroll past but today had zero context so I stopped to ask.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/11/2024 11:10

Horrible, particularly that the victims were “extremely young individuals”. At that time, suggests kids going to school to me (not of course that it wouldn’t be equally horrific whatever age the victims were but I can imagine it would be Impossible for children to try to defend themselves).

Don’t worry about your relatives, OP. These kind of incidents are incredibly rare.

What a weird response.

I hope it's better than this one @TheShellBeach

You don't need to justify posting OP.
Ignore the person telling you that you shouldn't have posted.

Never! There's nothing better than Mumsnet!
😂

wheretoyougonow · 04/11/2024 11:17

Shock - Horror - a mumsnetter posted about news in the news section...

Off to find someone to shame that has posted on AIBU instead of Chat 😂

You'll be lost for choice @wheretoyougonow

Chersfrozenface · 04/11/2024 11:19

Having checked French and international sources, they all refer to the incident as a "fight" ("une bagarre"), not an attack.

The consequences are equally horrible, but implication is different.

hanali · 04/11/2024 11:23

Can't see any mention of it on the BBC yet.

Chersfrozenface · 04/11/2024 11:29

On the Guardian website
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/nov/04/paris-suburban-train-axe-wounded

Also on numerous other news websites.

But why does it matter that OP has friends or family in the area? In the last few days I can see posts re Afghanistan, the US and two re Spain. News is news. You don’t have to be from a particular place or have any connection to it to share news in the news section.

Attelina · 04/11/2024 12:43

Thank you for posting, Op. I will share on Facebook.

Are you saying that in the News section of Mumsnet people should only share good news stories?
Maybe take that up with MNHQ if you want them to bring in that rule.

Maybe there could be a rule about only sharing better quality reports from reliable sources. The Express has an agenda on this type of news, and a very low journalistic standard, e.g. this gem from the link the OP posted, "An axis [sic] rampage in France has left at least six people injured, with one victim reportedly losing their hand and another having their skull split open."

Etincelle · 04/11/2024 13:53

I agree with that
