Just on BBC News. Am Gutted. Farewell, Humph. The world is a duller place without you.

The trumpet solo of Time meets the Radio7 light entertainment archive of Eternity...

BirdyArms · 26/04/2008 07:42

Very sad, I thought that he was fabulous. I always thought that he was something from another era, I don't think such all round talents exist any more - wonderful musician, great broadcaster, cartoonist etc, and a lovely man.

IdrisTheDragon · 26/04/2008 07:43

That is very sad .

franke · 26/04/2008 08:20

Only just seen this. Very sad but my goodness what an amazing life lived to the full

TsarChasm · 26/04/2008 08:54

Another great R4 broadcaster lost. He was excellent.

Tnog · 26/04/2008 08:57

RIP Humph.

I don't think I'll want to listen to ISIHAC without him.

even my 7yo daughter thought he was wonderful.

sfxmum · 26/04/2008 10:06
Sad
Doobydoo · 26/04/2008 10:08

He used to go round to my dp's uncles house and play the trumpet with him.Very funny chap too.

Chocolatedays · 26/04/2008 11:56

A great man remembered for a life of music and laughter - not a bad epitaph.

Heard this last night on Radio 4: Humph got a pack of sausages with a photo of Antony Worral Thompson on the pack - underneath it said prick with a fork.

Rest in Laughter Humph

jeanjeannie · 26/04/2008 14:08

So sad...can't even begin to think who could fill his shoes on ISIHAC...if anyone. But what a life.....how fabulous to have lived so long and doing what you loved....with people who were your friends. Sounds like 86 brilliant years to me.

Who will take an interest in Samantha now?

Habbibu · 26/04/2008 19:59

Oh, I hope they stop ISIHAC. And I have listened to it all my life, so I don't say that lightly, but Humph WAS Clue - I really don't think it should go on without him.

Agree with others - truly a life well lived.

Sheik - my favourite song was Don't Blame It on the Sunshine to the tune of Scotland the Brave...

I did not think it was possible to miss any voice on the radio more than John Peel. But ISIHAC is my favourite programme ever. RedWorm, your post has brought a shiver to my spine and a tear to my eye!

EachPeachPearMum · 27/04/2008 23:30

I can still hear 'Supercalifragilistic' to the tune of 'Deutschland uber alles'- it never leaves my brain!

harpsichordcarrier · 27/04/2008 23:35

I heard this in the car on FRiday night and had to pull over and have a little weep
which reminded me of the time I had to pull off the A303 because I was crying with laughter at one song to the tune of another
RIP Humph
so many of my favourite men gone, I must be getting old
Alistair Cooke
John Peel
Willie R
Miles Kington
now Humph

wrinklytum · 27/04/2008 23:39

Was laughing today at ISIHAC

"Space Oddity" to the tune of "English Country Garden" LOL.

There is some kind of tribute programme on Weds 9am on R4.

SoMuchToBits · 27/04/2008 23:58

Agree with you hc about all those people I'll miss too.

Still loved "Girlfriend in a coma" to the tune of "Tiptoe through the tulips".

MrsJohnCusack · 28/04/2008 01:25

the Don't Blame it on the Boogie one creases me up every time (think it is on one of my ISIHAC CDs)

my mother sad too, she used to go to his club in London as a bright young thang

what a fab man though -r eading the obit brings it home
