I agree. Earlier this afternoon I was listening to R4 discuss this case. I think it was the media show and Krishnan Guru-murthy was saying he was shocked by it and felt sorry that HE had done this. He also said that some people with an agenda would use the HEs case to besmirch the BBC
Not one person on the programme mentioned the poor sexually abused children which made me feel very, very angry.

Very self-serving and clearly just worried about his pay cheque.

Much like all the people you seen in the Jimmy Saville documentaries who say they had heard all the stories at the BBC..., and yet they stood by and permitted it to happen for years!

crumblingschools · 31/07/2024 17:52

I assume BBC still had to pay him when he was charged (innocent until proven guilty)

MoonAndStarsAndSky · 31/07/2024 16:03

Those of you downplaying this will regret it when all the details come out. Some of the children were SEVEN. Let that sink in. If someone sent something like that to you wouldn't you feel physically sick and report them to the police? What the F is wrong with you all.

Remember the vulnerable young person who was according to his mother addicted to crack cocaine was being paid by Edwards to send sexually explicit images to find a drug addiction. This is not an innocent man we are talking about here he is a dangerous predator.

I don't think a single person has said 'it's ok', and in this case, Huw is highly suspect. He continued texting a man who he knew possessed and shared CP - with just a 'not that young' to save his own skin

But acknowledging why some people don't report isn't the same as agreeing with it. It's a legal blindspot that unfortunately needs attention because it does deter some people from reporting. People have already linked to the case of the detective charged after receiving an unsolicited image from a concerned relative.

Again, not the case with Huw.

ButterCrackers · 31/07/2024 17:56

Child abusers should be castrated and then put in prison. Disgusting criminals.

MynameisML · 31/07/2024 17:57

Ah Mumsnet, the place where if you offer a very slightly nuanced view. you get shamed using straw man arguments. This is how polarisation happens online; eg, if you don’t completely agree with me, you must be opposing me. Aka the only point of discussion is not to discuss, just to vent. Fair enough on venting, but that’s what it is.

AnnieMcFanny · 31/07/2024 17:58

MynameisML · 31/07/2024 15:16

I think the guy who sent it should be named and shamed to a greater degree. The details are relevant. Does anyone else find it disconcerting that you can be sent something and be AS culpable as the person who sent it? He should be done for possession instead, would that stick? He deleted the images, because none were found on his devices. His crime seems to be not blocking the person and not reporting it, and that should be listed as a separate crime.
I’ll get a pile on for saying it because this is MN. But also, because this is MN, this thread will soon be deleted.

He has been named. He’s also been given a pathetic sentence.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 31/07/2024 14:02

They weren’t images of children. They were adult porn. And among them were 40 images that weren’t. Which stopped being sent when he told the sender, ‘nothing illegal’.

It’s all sleazy. And some of it was criminal.

And it’s important to distinguish between people who abuse small children, those who abuse teens, those who seek out images, and those who receive such images among others and fail to report them to the police.

They didn't stop being sent tho did they, it wasn't like the 40 came in one go. Although he did say Nothing illegal back, there were still multiple times he recieved them and yet still carried on conversing

AnnieMcFanny · 31/07/2024 18:02

SonicTheHodgeheg · 31/07/2024 15:35

The person who sent the images could be based overseas where laws are different.

He was in Merthyr Tydfil.

Lampslights · 31/07/2024 18:05

I hope those poor children are being found and helped. I can’t even stand to think about it. Raped and abused. Pictures shared like this amongst these paedophile monsters to get off on, of their rape and abuse.

I just read that news report. Wow, that’s shocking.
I’m guessing, if they do use the same logic, that H.E. will get similar (ie no time served). Will be interesting to see the comparison.

Sunshineandrainbow · 31/07/2024 18:07

Lampslights · 31/07/2024 17:34

This I can’t believe what I’m reading. The man is a peadophile. He has thankfully been caught and will go to jail.

Do you think he will go to jail?
. The person that sent the images got a suspended sentence!!!!

Yes, there is a worldwide pandemic of child sexual abuse, and exploitation of vulnerable people also with human trafficking. I doubt we know very little about the scale of it.

I agree. If you’re having to tell a pedo “not too young” and a 7 year old comes through, surely your blood would run cold!

Because it’s too big to be stopped. The same with the illegal drug world, the mafia, or any criminal enterprise. Law enforcement take down one ring, and another one replaces it.

Yes this is valid they must all have looked very young. Some outlets reporting the conversation the two had about them was sexually depraved.

Newsenmum · 31/07/2024 18:12

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/07/2024 16:04

I think it’s a valid point though. The legal meaning and the common use of the term ‘making’ are so far apart that I’d imagine it’s likely that an awful lot of men have received unsolicited images and aren’t aware that they are guilty of making them. Inaccuracy allows them to mentally create a gap between HE’s behaviour and theirs. I don’t really see how that encourages reporting or helps child victims.

How many men are receiving these? 😳 I like to think it’s a pretty rare occurrence and once in which you’d go straight to the police.

Onthetipofmytonguetoo · 31/07/2024 18:13

Sounds bad but I reckon he’ll top himself before this is all over. I always liked Huw. I’m from his home town and he helped me with my final assignment at uni when I was studying broadcast journalism. I did a piece about accents and the way the can help or hinder tv careers. He was happy for his mum to pass on his home number to me and we had a great chat. It’s actually terrifying that you really can trust no one when it comes to kids.

Floppyelf · 31/07/2024 18:15

TaylorSwish · 31/07/2024 11:55

Even if he didn’t ’make’ them just thinking about looking at them is sickening and illegal.

This. Any decent person would report. Revolting excuse for a human being. The Karma of being born in the UK, being a british national, having a great career which 99% of the country let alone the world would kill to have and all he’s going to the grave with is a convicted paedo because he actively took part in this sickening act. No need to make excuses for him. He pleaded guilty to all the charges.

They should requisition a large sum of his substantial wealth , and set it aside to pay for for the drug and alcohol treatment these poor children will undoubtedly require further down the line

I've heard of such videos being shared via WhatsApp, in a 'can you believe this is happening'. People (men and women) delete it: clearly enough aren't reporting of its getting passed around (and people are actually comfortable enough to share)

Disgusting to think of a 7 year old being violated in that way, also, really sad. We're mostly shielded from these things and go about our lives, but these are the realities for children this age and younger.
