see here
I don't know why I read her every week, she makes Xenia look like a SAHM, I don't even like Natasha Kerrrplunksy but seriously what are women meant to do.
In Minette's world, 2 choices
a) Work -have no children
b) Don't work -have lots of children

Life is not black and white, there are loads of shades and options in between these two things.
I know you're just going to tell me not to read her, but seriously, she would be better suited to the Daily Muppet

Tosh. Drivel. Absolute bollocks. Stupid woman.

thelittlestbadger · 10/04/2008 10:15

I'm glad someone else started this thread because I have read her a couple of times now and she makes me absolutely livid. I don't know why the Times employ her - surely she would be far better suited to the DM.

I don't even think the problem is that I have read the wrong articles - it seems to be every week - women taking employers for a ride with maternity leave; flexi time is unfair on colleagues; parents aren't bringing their children up properly so that they get married. FFS.

Mentioned it to DH and he just said that he would love to take 6 months paternity leave and the sooner that was granted the better then employers would just have to get on with it and stop bitching about working mothers.

MrsMattie · 10/04/2008 10:16

I heart your DH@thelittlebadger

thelittlestbadger · 10/04/2008 10:20

Me too!

UnquietDad · 10/04/2008 10:24

Wasn't she the woman who wrote about how adultery could be a good thing for a marriage? I wondered after that how many emails she got saying "Fancy a bit, then, Minette?"

DarrellRivers · 10/04/2008 10:31

I think that's it, every week it's the same.
She seriously hates women who have children and dare to work.
UQD, it indeed a common theme , prostitution

I would also like to point out that two weeks before the birth of my first child I was explaining a point of disability legislation in some detail. Five days before the birth of my second I passed my driving test.

I cannot say that I looked like an utterly irresistable babe throughout, but my brain worked.

DarrellRivers · 10/04/2008 10:32

or even here sorry

"Meanwhile, instead of the ferociously sexy on-the-ball babe that Five hired, Kaplinsky will be becoming larger and mumsier, she may have a nauseous or difficult pregnancy requiring lots of time off, and at some point her brain will be affected by the amnesia of pregnancy".

FFS!

thelittlestbadger · 10/04/2008 10:35

Or this...www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/minette_marrin/article2848086.ece

this is my particular favourite for her strong grasp of statistics and careful cogent analysis: www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/minette_marrin/article3646490.ece

MrsMattie · 10/04/2008 10:36

I cannot believe she said that either@BetteNoir. Disgusting.

DarrellRivers · 10/04/2008 10:38

Does she have children or daughters ?
Am off to google

OP posts:
thelittlestbadger · 10/04/2008 10:40

She does have some children but 'worked freelance and part-time' so she didn't upset her employers. I know, lets all do that - plenty of freelance and PT jobs to go round while still ensuring we look sexy and we can cook and clean for our husbands. FFS. Grrr.

DarrellRivers · 10/04/2008 10:40

can't find out
if anyone knows please post, am out for the day, addled mother that I am.
Will check in later

Can I just point out in addition that she can't have been doing much work. I've freelanced since my children were a few months old: with childcare. Working four days a week. As a journalist. To earn a living.

MrsMattie · 10/04/2008 10:43

She is full of scathing criticism for just about anyone who isn't her, but offers no alternatives to any what she criticises. She's a bit dim.

Upwind · 10/04/2008 10:44

GRRRRR Smug, ignorant journo. Judging everybody else in relation to her own good fortune. Two things, both close to my heart:

Many women have fertility problems and can't reasonably plan when they have children. How dare she assume that NK or anyone else could?

With the cost of accomodation today, most mothers do not have any choice about whether or not to work.

wessexgirl · 10/04/2008 10:49

Oh dear, here's another fount of worldly wisdom, with serious gender-related self-esteem issues, that I was better off not knowing about.

I've only read the first paragraph of the linked articles, but had to laugh at her circle's idea of light cocktail conversation: 'You've no idea how much women like you are hated by women like me.' Classic icebreaker!
