  1. Do you think that its' human nature to find natural events (sudden weather changes, earthquakes, avalanches, storms, tsunami's, volcanoes) exciting?
  1. Do you you think that when such things happen AND loss of life occurs it's wrong to admit how amazing nature can be?

  2. Do you think it's wrong for somebody to write about the 'otherside' of people's feelings following a natural disaster - ie not focussing on the death and desctruction but focussing on people's amazement at nature

  3. If you could stop ALL natural events such as - earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, avalanches, floods, droughts, landslides or tidal waves (even those where no loss of life occurs) would you?

My answers.

  1. Yes I do - the things this planet can do without human intervention is simply incredible

  2. No I don't. I think NOT talking about it is simply trying to hide the truth

  3. No.

  4. No I wouldn't, nature has always done this to our planet, if you stopped all of those things it wouldn't be our planet anymore!

Lockets - point taken. However the point I am trying to make is that lou is a very well known and liked member of mumsnet and maybe this isn't the place to hold this discussion.

goodkingwestcountrylass I agree with you, I would have answered the same had the question been asked AFTER the bodies have been took down from the trees FFS! Some people just have to be controversial don't they?
I don't think there is anything wrong with the questions but seriously, you don't have to be personally attached to the disaster to be grieving for these people, I think we are all mourning the massive losses. It's too early IMO!

Blossomhill · 01/01/2005 21:52

I really do not like your attitude pinkdiamond

sophabaubles · 01/01/2005 21:55

blossomhill, i don't think that pinkdiamond was being aggressive in any way...

I can't see why yopu are all having a go at Gwen? She simply moved a discussion, originally started by someone else, to a more appropriate place, ie away from a thread where people were posting about their lost friends/relatives.

As to "whohonestly gets banned from a baby forum". it doesn't take much at Babyworld these days which is why I have moved from spending 80% of my online time on there to here.

The questions

  1. Yes I do think its human nature to find these events exciting, just look at the amount of tornado runners for example.

  2. I wouldn't quite use the word amazing, more like powerful. Tis is a reminder of how powerful nature can be against whet we are.

  3. I don't think its worng to talk about it, but in the national press it shouldn't be in the immediate aftermath.

  4. I'm stumped here. I wouldn't want to stop the forces of nature and see that some things are necessary, but I would want to stop any loss of life, especially on this sort of scale.

Did I use the word aggressive though? I was told to leave because of my opinion. I certainly do not want an argument on here with someone I haven't even met. I will keep my opinion to myself as obvioulsy unless I agree 100% with you then I am not welcome.

Blossomhill, Gwenick brought this discussion to a separate thread because she wanted to ask opinions and it was unwelcome on the SE Asia thread.

Some people, like you, are objecting to it but equally some aren't, and as pinkdiamond said you have the choice of reading the thread or not. You really can't dictate what other people discuss.

I don't know if Lou would object to the thread or not but neither do you.

Blossomhill · 01/01/2005 22:06

JanH - I am certainly not responding on behalf of Lou, of course not. I was merely stating that Lou was in Thailand!

Thecattlearemerloting · 01/01/2005 22:07

I feel extrememly upset by the whole Tsunami situation, but feel that freedom of speech should be sacrosanct on a forum like Mumsnet.

Certainly none of us should be dictating what the rest of us should feel/or say. The flipside of freedom of speech is, however, that you shouldn't get upset if your `arguments' or discussion points are met with hostility (that's freedom of speech too!)

hmmmmm · 01/01/2005 22:12

Is lavender still around btw?

Fran1 · 01/01/2005 22:12

I would imagine Lou would be more fascinated than the rest of the ones, as she is the one that has been there, witnessed it and survived it!

Sorry Lou if i am wrong, just thinking out loud.

DelGirl · 01/01/2005 22:15

hmmmmm - i think lav may well be lurking/posting as we 'speak'. dont ask me why, just a feeling

emmatmg · 01/01/2005 22:16

I thought that too delgirl.

wonder if we're thinking the same thread?
