The news about that poor woman who they said got her boot stuck in the cattle grid at a level crossing is getting really murky. Her boyfriend has been charged with manslaughter - and police no longer believe she got stuck, apparently.

Horrible.

oh man

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/04/2008 09:21

oh no....

ruty · 05/04/2008 09:22

What??? What about the other guy who was helping her get free?

cheekychickenknickers · 05/04/2008 09:23

WTF????
horrid.. I did wonder how she managed to get her Ugg boot caught but she did so I never mentioned in..

Divvy · 05/04/2008 09:24

So he wasnt helping her to get free, he was keeping her stuck!

quite gross

Nbg · 05/04/2008 09:26

Oh dear

I read that she freed herself but went back to get her Ugg boot that was stuck and that she curled up in a ball when she saw the train approaching

Either way its still

Buda · 05/04/2008 09:34

I read that one of the guys who helped to free her said that once she was freed the boyfriend called her to go back over the track to catch their train. She did.

I think they are charging him with manslaughter.

HereComeTheGirls · 05/04/2008 09:40

Yes, I think it was more that he stupidly encouraged her to cross in front of train again, not that he was trying to murder her by "keeping her stuck", hence the charge being manslaughter and not murder?

Buda · 05/04/2008 09:55

I think that's it HereCTG.

HereComeTheGirls · 05/04/2008 10:19

If that's true, I feel quite sorry for the guy, he was probably not thinking clearly and in shock at seeing his GF stuck in the tracks

ruty · 05/04/2008 10:21

yes probably. A severe charge for stupid misjudgement, but probably warranted.

Upwind · 05/04/2008 10:22

If anyone told me to jump on front of a bus I would like to think I would decline. And if I did, I would hate for them to be charged with manslaughter while grieving.

Greyriverside · 05/04/2008 11:59

I can't believe he could be convicted of that even if he did it, and who would know now?
Unless she was a child he is not responsible for her actions

edam · 05/04/2008 21:14

Presumably there is more to it - will have to wait for the trial to see just how culpable he is.

fuckin hell

LaComtesse · 05/04/2008 21:16

It seems an odd thing to charge him with but I expect there were quite a few witnesses.

I'm assuming that there will have to be an inquest now? As there criminal charges are being brought.

Did she go back for a boot?
Good god boots can be replaced.
The only thing that would get me on to a crossing is if (god forbid) one of my children was stuck on it.
A boot

NotABanana · 05/04/2008 21:36

Is it because he insisted she cross the track to be on the right side for his train?

WendyWeber · 05/04/2008 21:37

havenamechanged

Really?

kimi, the account of the incident at the time from a 3rd party said he had pulled the girl out of her boot, she was safe but because the bf had got across the line and called her she went to join him as the train came and was hit - not killed for the boot.

LaComtesse · 05/04/2008 21:38

I wonder if it's to set an example - I'm surmising here but they may have been trespassing on the tracks if the train was approaching. There might only be a licence to cross the tracks when they're clear iyswim.

WendyWeber · 05/04/2008 21:38

I mean the 3rd party had pulled the girl out of her stuck boot, obv the bf had gone on and left her, sounds like a prize

Kimi · 05/04/2008 21:38

Does no one use the word NO anymore?

"Walk across a train track"
"NO"
So much heartache avoided

Miggsie · 05/04/2008 21:42

..so the BF left her stuck, watched someone else free her and then asked the woman to then walk across, she having just escaped death...?
And the stupid bint then walks across?!
But is not lucky a second time...
The guy who just saved her life must have felt he was in an alternate reality.

I expect the police wanted the charge the BF with something as it is not yet a criminal offence to be a selfish, lazy shithead.

moondog · 05/04/2008 21:43

It is sooo oweird isn't it?
