He has gone in for tests on a chest infection.

I like him. I think he's had a lot of bad press over the years, some deserved, some not, but he never complains and just gets on with opening cement factories, listening to manglings of the National Anthem, etc. No whining, no baring his soul, just doing his bit. How unlike most other modern male celebs.

There's something very masculine about him.

laserjet · 04/04/2008 13:57

He is a loyal husband imo and very distinguished.

I like him too (although he does suffer from foot in the mouth disease sometimes). He doesn't whinge - he just gets on with it. Shame Prince Charles didn't take after him.

Greensleeves · 04/04/2008 16:12

I think he is an obnoxious dinosaur. I have no feelings either way about his chest infection. However I don't see why it's 'news' - he doesn't DO anything. A teacher or a nurse being ill - that's important (although still not national news)

hana · 04/04/2008 16:12

distinguished and a celeb?

he suffers very badly from saying quite inappropriate things when he - or a press officer - should know better!

Bridie3 · 04/04/2008 16:17

Actually he 'does' quite a lot. At his age, people are usually propped up in armchairs but he is hosting boring meetings with boring people in the hope that someone might buy British goods. Or meeting the otherwise ignored little people who do things like meals on wheels or other voluntary stuff. And talking to them. And making them feel valued. Or standing in stuffy rooms listening to children from primary schools croak out a 'special song' they wrote and clapping at the end.

DeeRiguer · 04/04/2008 16:18

who cares?

it's hardly news..makes you wonder what real news is being overlooked for this pap

expatinscotland · 04/04/2008 16:18

I hadn't realise he was so old.

Pixel · 04/04/2008 16:19

Well, as someone who has a tendency to put my foot in it I do have a lot of sympathy for him. I might cringe with embarrassment sometimes but at least my remarks are unlikely to reach the papers.

DJCod · 04/04/2008 16:19

good

Met him when I was about 12, was with a St John AMbulance gard of honour- coulnd't understand a word he said!. Just a lot of mumbling.

Am generally with greeny on this one, hope he's OK but he's always putting his foot in it..... and he's hardly not getting any come back for the things he does, unless everyone here bar me has tons of staff, pots of cash and lives in a castle?

LaComtesse · 04/04/2008 16:22

Are you the Queen, Bridie? .

Only in my sitting room, LaComtesse.

No--I was going to write an article and did some research a few years back. It was on grumpy old men types. I watched films and TV snippets.

DJCod · 04/04/2008 16:24

tortoiseSHELL · 04/04/2008 16:37

DJCod · 04/04/2008 16:37

laserjet · 04/04/2008 16:38

Actually I think he does a lot. It can't be easy having to lve your life in the public eye because of who you fell in love with. Yes, he has said some daft things but we all have. His just happen to be in the papers. It is news because he is the Queen's husband.

Let's hope none of the nurses are Oriental or African... Unless they want slitty-eyed or spear-throwing comments from him...
