@ which bit? the £2 for a coffee, the silly man who didnt park right so thinks he is badly done to for getting a ticket or just that its a load of nonsense?

OverMyDeadBody · 29/03/2008 08:01

Well, maybe some people haven't given the cost of things like coffee and booking fees a second thought, but I have, as I suspect all the other people that don't have disposable income have as well. It annoys me that these articles are always writen from the pov of 'wealthier' people who will, only now, start to feel their purse strings tighten.

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2008 08:03

Well, this has been obvious to me for ages, which is partly why I don't live in London.

And actually I think the examples given are just the tip of the ice berg.

Kindersurprise · 29/03/2008 08:07

The bit about the man who was too stupid to park his car is ridiculous. I live in Germany and even I have heard of the congestion charge in London. Get a bloody tube.

The rest of it, well. I did not think it was very well written. A bit of a rant actually.

Coffee for 2quid? Don't go to Starbucks then. There are plenty of places to get a coffee that does not cost so much.

The booking fee is something that is strange, you get the same when booking flights. You pay extra for paing with a credit card. How else are you supposed to pay? Put 100euros in an envelope and send it?

kittywise · 29/03/2008 08:12

I think people should just stop moaning

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2008 15:26

Yes, people, stop moaning and pay up. Or use your common sence (and public transport)

Upwind · 29/03/2008 17:24

Yes, people, stop moaning and accept a declining standard of living...

Of course, how easy it is to accept depends on how lucky you were to begin with.

Kevlarhead · 01/04/2008 22:44

This is the problem with the news; it's mostly written by journalists who are

a: based in London and

b: loaded

...which means that the news is usually written by a bunch of metropolitan middle class wankers.

Life is expensive, and getting more so? No shit sherlock! How long did it take him to come up with that stunning insight?

Next we'll have a shock report report that in some parts of the UK, houses are too expensive, followed by a quick snippet on the defecatory habits of bears...

mablemurple · 01/04/2008 22:59

Maybe I'm being a bit dense, but why is this man blaming Gordon Brown/the government for the prices private enterprises charge?? Have I missed some announcement by the Tories that they will be controlling the economy centrally and dictating the prices businesses can charge?
(And I have no sympathy whatsoever for people who moan about parking tickets/speeding fines. Grow up and accept responsibility.)
