I dont think he'll go back on Tv

i highly doubt it, so that's his career gone over something he didn't do.and then he'll probably be referred to as "that kids presenter who murdered his girlfriend" because all anyone really remembers is the first big headline/story and the fact that he's not on telly anymore.
just look at john leslie

prettybird · 21/03/2008 12:56

It's intersting that my 7 year old ds, who I didn't even know watched ArtAttack has commented that it is sad that he is no longer presenting as he was really good.

LIZS · 21/03/2008 13:03

He has given up Smart already anyway hasn't he ? Probably would n't pass a CRB check now which I would think hope is a prerequisite of working in such a role Children's tv .

prettybird · 21/03/2008 13:28

Why would he fail - he has not been charged?

theBOD · 21/03/2008 14:23

why would he fail any checks for working with children?he's completely innocent of any crime (in this case anyway,i don't know who he is so i'm ignorant of any previous convictions if they exist.)

waffletrees · 21/03/2008 14:28

Not like the UK media to drag someones reputation through the mud - I mean why wait for the full facts to come out when you can make them up yourself?

theBOD · 21/03/2008 14:41

that's the problem though.what have the media done wrong here? under the freedom of the press they are allowed to print the truth. and not one paper will be stupid enough to say he did it. but every one will have a headline like "KILLER" and a big photo of the poor guy before following it with an opening line of "xzy has been arrested on suspicion/ alleged murderer etc" and they have the defence of the truth as he was arrested for suspicion of murder and they will say it is not their fault that the public prejudge a case based on the fact that someone is a suspect or has been charged. personally i think there should be a gagging order on the papers to report on any court case before the judgment comes out as it causes so much damage to all high profile cases. wether it is the contamination of a jury (something i think happened in a recent case in dublin), or the labelling of a suspect who may be innocent (e.g. this case or anyone charged with murder/rape/paedophilia it doesn't matter what the result of the case is their life as they know i is over) or the villification of the victim (as happened in the murphy case in ireland years ago or many women in rape cases that somehow they "deserved it".) unfortunately i can't see this happen.

TheWiltedRose · 21/03/2008 15:18

Blimey i just about read all that!

theBOD · 21/03/2008 15:21

lol sorry it was so long but the trial by media culture really infuriates me.

edam · 21/03/2008 15:31

theBod, victims of rape are anonymous so I don't see how you reckon the press manages to besmirch them.

And I challenge you to find a picture of Mark with a headline that says 'Killer'. You won't.

Desiderata · 21/03/2008 15:42

I'm more relieved about poor old Basil. It's gratifying to note that the hate crimes unit have passed him as fit to continue presenting.

TheWiltedRose · 21/03/2008 16:06

lmao

OP posts:
prettybird · 21/03/2008 17:02

There might not be Edam - but many people will remember him for the fact that was arrexted on suspicion of the murder - and there certainly some snesationalist aspects to the way that was reported, even if nothing actually said "Killer".

I am not sure why LIZS didn't want him on Children's TV anymore (it may have been more to do with the drugs allegations) but the point is that that illustrates that people's reputations are damaged.
