Police offering rewards for finding killers

I saw this on the local news today.

Do you think it's appropriate to offer monetary rewards for crime information, funded by the police authorities? On one hand I think potentially it could save money by reducing the length of the police investigation, (assuming information is received that contributes to an arrest) but on the other I think it shouldn't be funded by the police, bearing in mind the large rise in council tax to fund them. Our police contribution has gone up nearly 9% this year.

Obviously I think the police need to do all they can to find serious criminals, but is offering cash rewards from their budget the way to do it?

Dont see a problem with it , Hampshire ploice are offering £2k out of the £6k.

In an ideal world we shouldn't have to offer money for pople to come forward with info like this - but then in an ideal world people wouldn't be murdered !

£2k was probably the overtime bill for the first week , if they get the info that leads to a conviction the in the long run it may save even more overtime and hours spent on this .

this is not the police fault that they have to come up with something like this , it is the person who murdered the old lady and the people who know who did it and are not coming forward.
