I was really surprised to read this. I always liked Charles on Antiques Road Trip although he could be irritating at times.
His poor wife & kids.

Well all tv personalities have private lives and sometimes regrettably personal relationships can get messy. It must be very stressful for all concerned.

That’s true but this sounds like a classic dv pattern with coercive control one of the charges. Also neglect of the children?

Maybe it was all in one incident ..we don’t really know. He has denied the charges. Sounds awful for the family though and it will almost certainly affect his career.

You’re right, there’s a lot we don’t know. I suppose experience leads me to believe there is likely to be something to this sadly. It will most certainly impact on his career I think.

Very true! Especially based on some of the threads on here. I suppose you only see one side of someone on TV but I was really fond of Charles (again I know nothing is proven) so I was just shocked to see this pop up.

Gosh! I live not far from Hanson and he's a bit of a local celeb round here. I've met him a few times due to my job and always thought he was a bit strange, a bit arrogant especially after his 'glow up' & hair transplant. Never expected this kind of thing from him though!
His wife is lovely. I hope the family are ok.

Heard from another expert on the show that he's a very difficult man

Interesting, I did notice on the road trip that he could be quite patronising towards the female experts but he disguised it by being quite jokey. Didn’t realise he’d had a glow up!

His MO seems to be being very scatty & clumsy but obviously hides something underneath.

I'm surprised by this as he seemed nice on the programme but I guess it just goes to show we don't actually know celebrities, we just tend to think we do. I've always found him to be a pretty rubbish expert on Bargain Hunt though as his bonus buys often lose the contestants a lot of money.

Yes very true, we only see a certain side of their persona. I suppose there’s lots of famous examples of charming men who were very different behind the scenes!

There’s no smoke without fire. The police would have had pretty hard evidence to convince the CPU to press charges.

How very very sad for all concerned.

I have to say I agree with this. Plus there are 7 separate charges (though could be from the same incident). It’s unlikely to have happened in isolation though.

I really dislike the saying 'the idea no smoke without fire'. There used to be frequently rumour and noise when there is no truth to it.
That saying is used freely when it really can be harmful.

But in this case I do think something has happened.

Personally I don't particularly like the way he hams it up for the camera, mind you I have no idea what he is like in person but I've met a few auctioneers who have been on the TV and most of them have been quite down to earth in person.

I know, I was thinking about this a lot & I know it sounds bonkers but I used to watch Antiques Road Trip a lot when I was depressed & off work & found it really comforting. Hearing this about Charles sort of gives me that feeling that nothing is as it seems. Also knowing from here how many men are abusive at home but charming to the outside world.

If you think that's bad you should see his puffed-up strutting around his own salerooms and experience his sheer arrogance

Sadly this news doesn't surprise me in the least, and my thoughts are with his wife and children

The charges are definitely to do with the DC. Very sad.

Hope they are ok.
