Ridiculous.

FairyMum · 13/03/2008 07:16

....And in the Daily Hell too. What are their readers going to think? Is this a bad mother or a case of "health and safety gone mad"?

ChopsTheDuck · 13/03/2008 07:54

poor woman.

Crazy, do they have to take them out on petrol forecourts there too?

edam · 13/03/2008 12:24

Oh FFS. Like that poor woman in America who was done for b/f her baby, in her own car, covered with a shawl...

LOL - oops DS3 now properly awake - better go and give him some milk.

Greyriverside · 13/03/2008 13:31

It will happen here at some point. Everything that is not compulsory will be forbidden with no allowance made for your own judgement/common sense.

I wonder how you'd get say three small DCs from house to car without leaving one or more unattended. Perhaps you'd have to leave them sitting on the road beside the car. I'm sure that's not illegal. It's just being IN the car that's so mindbogglingly dangerous.

waffletrees · 13/03/2008 13:47

Well if we ever needed more proof that Americans are weird here it is. Their legal system always seems to go over the top in these situations. I think in UK police might give you a ticking off. To send a loving mother to prison for a mistake will achieve more hurt to her children.

expatinengland · 13/03/2008 16:31

I'm American and think this is insane. I also think it's insane when people leave their child outside a shop in England (because somebody could run away with them), but in this case the car was locked and the alarm was activated. How could anybody get the child? The mother was close by. I think the officials are too stupid to consider that they made a mistake...of course they never admit mistakes. I wish the poor woman well and do believe the case will be dismissed.

As for paying for petrol....in the US this isn't a problem because we have 'pay at the pump' stations...no need to go inside, but I still think it's okay to leave the child inside a locked car in England since can't get this new invention over here it seems.

Yes, lots of kids die when left alone in cars (mostly due to heat) but this situation isn't even the same as these. I'm sure those kids learned a valuable lesson...NEVER give to charity again.
