Sorry, I wasn't sure where to put this, but there is a Downing Street petition against mosquito devices here.

Please sign up they are terrible things!

have signed petition.

I agree that they are awful things, and are completely indiscriminate in who they affect. A flat we lived in when dd1 was small has since had one fitted just outside where our flat was. Imagine if we still lived there!

Brilliant! I was beginning to think I was on my own here. . It would be awful to have one outside where you live. Surely that kind of exposure would do some long term damage? Or just cause the kind of stress that tinnitus (sp?) causes. Awful.

is that the teenager deterrent thing?

fryalot · 13/03/2008 08:17

yep, the thing that only teenagers can hear, but is painful for them.

southeastastra · 13/03/2008 08:30

i'll sign it later, it affects some adults too doesn't it. totally ott and big brother.

tcmummy · 13/03/2008 08:33

I can hear it and I'm 30. (I like to think it's coz I'm soooo youthful ) The companies that sell them say anyone under 25, which obviously includes babies and children (a point they don't market heavily ), but I know a lot of people my age who can still hear it.

I'll sign up later, it's appalling.

I think you could describe it as 'collective punishment' which is illegal under international law. Although it applies to states, not companies, I guess.

tcmummy · 13/03/2008 16:29

Mmm... collective punishment. I wonder if they get round it by saying it's a collective deterrent. Our council and police force uses them, not just private companies. It's a sad day when the authorities think this is the way to go.
