Anyone got a B&W TV still?

article here

What I want to know is, what's to stop you having a B&W licence and owning a colour TV set? I knew someone who did that in student days.

Detector vans didn't pick that up. In fact, I suspect detector vans were always empty and they always caught people by investigating households listed as having no TV.

I think that if you have a B&W license you could still get an occasional visit from a License officer to check - but not certain.

AFAIK H has never had anyone buy a B&W licence from him - he's been in the job for 2 1/2yrs and licenses approx 120 people a month.

Dectector vans definitely had someone in them - we had a visit from them when I was about 11yrs old - long before the current database of homes without a license was used in it's current way.

We had a TINY (about 5 inches wide IIRC) B&W TV which was being used as the computer monitor (don't ask LOL) and it still sort of tuned it........they came round to check - but having inspected downstairs and seeing there was nowhere to put a TV they left us.

have a tiny b&w but use it mainly to nose, it can pick up some very strange things.

i want to know why the bbc are funding a new bbc arabic service, but guess that's another thread.

Me, I have a minuscule black and white set, the screen is about the size of a CD jewel case and it receives two channels. I have it by the sink in case I need to watch a blurry snowstorm while scrubbing baking trays. I am quite fond of it actually, it also a radio.
