The BBC say he was hillwalking,although why he was hillwalking when that terrible weather had been forecast, is anyone's guess

Poor chap - I hope some god-awful secret is not about to be revealed for his families sake, they have enough to grieve about.

Sorry to be so cynical.

I heard he had committed suicide as an expose was about to be done in a Sunday paper. I hope they are very proud of themselves.

erm, I DO know there have been family problems for some time but lets face it that isn't unusual in itself.

If an expose was in the air, that's just too shocking, but who clamours for this stuff? us the public.

It's time we butted out of other peoples lives.

It's awful isn't it - it's a very high price to pay for trying to live up to a certain moral code, which I guess as a poluce chief he may have thought he needed to. I hope if there is an expose of some sort it's not to do with his sexuality or smoking cannabis or anything else that has naff all to do with how he did his job. Poor poor wife and kids. and poor him to feel that this was the only way out
