I can't believe the amount of airtime given to the election campaigns. Nowhere near as much coverage of leadership battles in the UK.

Oh (after reading fink's links), I heard Samantha Powell on the Simon Mayo show the other day. She sounded reasonably sensible at the time.

Interesting that those polls show both HC and BO beating JMc.

policywonk · 07/03/2008 19:08

Lots of mighty pissed-off BO supporters making comments on the Scotsman site, I see...

finknottle · 07/03/2008 19:09

I heard her on Start The Week on Mon. Thought she had a gorgeous voice, a la Kathleen Turner.

finknottle · 07/03/2008 19:13

Did anyone see the reports of Rs following Rush Limbaugh's advice and voting for HC in Texas's open primary?
here
May just be the blogosphere and radio bods upping their importance but it's weird, isn't it?

Piffle · 07/03/2008 19:27

I will sound anti US. but... Am I the only one who has no faith/trust that the voters will vote democrat? I worry when faced with a White war hero versus a black or female opposition... They'll loose focus on change.
please tell me I'm wrong!
ps team Hillary here

expatinscotland · 07/03/2008 19:34

As opposed to white Tory and white psuedo-Tory like here?

expatinscotland · 07/03/2008 19:35

I take Rush Limbaugh the same way I take Kilroy-Silk.

finknottle · 07/03/2008 19:39

at Kilroy-Silk
I'm fascinated by it all, I admit. Here politics is more tame and I can't imagine someone turning up at a polling station and proudly announcing they're on someone else's sabotage mission, lol.

Piffle · 07/03/2008 19:43

exactly expat!!!!! Politics is such an old boys network. Not what you but who you know. Esp helpful to GWB mind you esp during the farcical vote count in Florida!

finknottle · 07/03/2008 19:49

Agree, and for that reason, there's a whole world behind the scenes we'll never get to see, where seemingly opposing sides do actually meet up and promote each other.

SueBaroo · 07/03/2008 21:04

Piffle, I don't see why you would have any confidence that American voters will vote Democrat. Many, many, many of them won't, just like they didn't last time.

moodymammy · 08/03/2008 07:50

since 1988 the US have had either a Bush or a Clinton in the top job. surely its time for a change?

expatinscotland · 08/03/2008 17:06

Thing is, it's a shit job. No matter what, you're not going to be liked. It wouldn't matter if Mother Theresa were in power, America isn't liked.

That's why wiser folks like Colin Powell have refused to run, even though he had huge public support.

Piffle · 09/03/2008 22:52

yeah have to admit with no GWB running I miss having a candidate to really loathe...
McCain is my best to anti against but even then...
mind you his quotes on Iran are quite terrifying
