Does anyone care about the US election campaigns?

I can't believe the amount of airtime given to the election campaigns. Nowhere near as much coverage of leadership battles in the UK.

Absolutely not. Carry on.

Unless the presidential candidates are trigger happy/nuclear button happy I don't care who wins.

The only coverage we need is the final election date result.

policywonk · 04/03/2008 22:20

I care. Tonight's going to be an exciting one.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/03/2008 22:25

Really? Clinton and Obama - it's rather gripping I think.

And I think the presidential elections are going to be pretty exciting too. McCain also an interesting choice.

I care. I can't quite believe the Democratic choice is a black man or a woman - it's fantastic, and even a decade ago would have seemed impossible.

BTW - Go OBAMA!!

pointydog · 04/03/2008 22:28

No. I'll be interewted to hear who finally wins but cannot be arsed with the campaign.

NorthernLurker · 04/03/2008 22:31

I care - it's just like the West Wing - this one's going all the way to the convention

workstostaysane · 04/03/2008 22:37

oooh yes very inteterested.

Go Billary!! oops of course meant Hillary...

suedonim · 04/03/2008 22:40

I think it's v interesting. I was explaining to 11yo dd why it was important to follow what happens in the US, namely that it affects what happens in the UK. 'But mummy,' says she, 'the UK doesn't have to do everything the same as America!' Out of the mouths of babes etc.....

Go · 04/03/2008 22:42

Well I hate to say it, but we had a woman in charge over here, what 30 years ago? And as for the skin colour of a president, I couldn't care less. As long as (s)he can do a better job than George Bush (and let's face it, I could) then I'm really not bothered. Just seems like we have to have US crap forced down our throats all day long (or 24/7 as they would say). wish we were really part of Europe and not the 53rd state.....

I can see what you're saying go, but it's the truth of the matter - the US elections are hugely significant, even if you wish they weren't.

Hillary, eh? That woman does't know when she's beaten!

moondog · 05/03/2008 08:15

Has he whupped her arse?
I think it's exciting-maybe only because of the woman/black man thing which is reason enough.

Clayhead · 05/03/2008 08:17

I'm loving it! First thing I did this morning was check on the results from last night!

policywonk · 05/03/2008 08:22

moondog - Hillary won three out of the four, but only narrowly, and as the Democrats are allocating their delegates proportionally, it hasn't been enough for HC to catch up with BO.

moondog · 05/03/2008 08:35

Thanks
(lol at BO)

seasidemama · 05/03/2008 08:38

LOL @ Northern Lurker! Glad it's not just me thinking it's just like the West Wing. I keep waiting for Josh to appear

I love all the coverage. Keep having to flick between active convos on MN and the drudge report. No wonder I get sod all done.

GooseyLoosey · 05/03/2008 08:46

I care quite a lot. Who knows, it might affect whether I or someone I know gets blown up on the tube on the way into work. I believe that irrespective of his actual abilities as a president, the world might be a safer place if Obama won.

sis · 05/03/2008 12:42

HILLARY! HILLARY! HILLARY! erm, yes, I do care!

expatinscotland · 05/03/2008 12:44

I can't say I really give a toss about them.

And I'm an American by birth and now a naturalised Brit.

It's been nearly 7 years since I set foot in America. It seems light years ago.

Astrophe · 05/03/2008 12:48

I guess I don't care about the campaigns as such, because I can't vote, but of course I care about the outcome - whoever wins will be most powerful person on earth, like it or not.

SueBaroo · 05/03/2008 12:50

Well, I care and I don't. I care because it's the most powerful country (and in many ways, the best-thought-out democracy) in the modern world, and because I have a number of good American friends, who care very much about what happens.

But I get a little bit bored with some of the one-note reporting of it in the UK. Some of the Republican stuff has been quite interesting, but most of the mainstream reporting I've seen has just been having an orgasm over Obama/Clinton.

I am quite intrigued by the arguments for and against nationalized healthcare over there, too.

donnie · 05/03/2008 12:51

I care. Go Hillary!

expatinscotland · 05/03/2008 13:01

I think I can still vote.

I'm not sure.

But the candidates all suck so I'd just as soon not.
