Grim. Saw this on the BBC - seems unreal, more like an episode of some TV crime series rather than something that actually happened.

NutterlyUts · 24/02/2008 11:08

Haute De La Garenne has been a topic for a long time, with claims of child abuse going right back to within the last few years. FINALLY the government have started looking into it, and one of the ministers has agreed to make whomever needs to pay pay.

I hate to say it but I think they'll find more horrors.

olivo · 24/02/2008 12:38

This is a very grim find. I live in Jersey, everyone is very shocked by it. Hope to God they don't find any more, but it seems it's a possibility.

NutterlyUts · 24/02/2008 12:57

Am in Jersey too Olivo

I heard this on the news yesterday.

How has this child been missing for so long? I suppose the staff assume (or claim) that older children just run away. They'd have been more fuss about their disappearance perhaps if they were very young.

Utterly horrific if there have been claims of abuse as Nutterly says and still no action has been taken until now.

NutterlyUts · 24/02/2008 16:12

The report on the local news earlier was saying that during the investigation of claims of child abuse, 3 different people had known/spoke of the body at haute de la guarenne during interviewing police did.

The way the police spoke of it, it sounded like the people had claimed it with no evidence, but given that 3 different, unconnected people had said it, the police had looked into it.

The latest report was saying the sniffer dog had located other areas inside and outside the house to look at, and the police don't know if it's more bodies, or other bits of the first one.

hecate · 24/02/2008 18:20

Terrifying isn't it. So so sad that a child could disappear with nobody to miss them. Did anyone else read that they were looking for more bodies?

TotalChaos · 24/02/2008 18:24

I feel exactly the same way as you Hecate. Chilling.

crazycanuck · 24/02/2008 23:11

am in Jersey as well. this is all terribly sad and shocking, really can't believe it.

wannaBe · 25/02/2008 09:38

Reports on the news today that police believe there may bee more remains. another 6 sights have been found by the sniffer dog .

How tragic that children could disapppear and no-one missed them .

edam · 25/02/2008 10:18

Sounds as if there has been a BIG cover up - the former health minister who tried to raise this issue was on Radio 4 this morning with someone whose name I didn't catch who was dismissing the whole thing and just bitching about the ex-minister making it 'political'. The latter was actually demonstrating exactly how the cover up happened - denial, smearing anyone who dared to raise concerns and so on. Especially since it would appear some of those accused of abuse were quite important.

bossybritches · 27/02/2008 13:15

Abusers in high places -more common than you would like to think Edam- they all cover for each other.

I caught one report that thought there was more than one body & possibly up to seven? but then that wasn't repeated in later bulletins so it could be conjecture.

One or seven how sad that no-one cared if the child lived or died?

niceglasses · 28/02/2008 08:35

Does anyone find the reporting of this odd though? Why the 'dog had a very strong reaction' carry on? Its usually pretty quiet until they have something absolute to report. I just find it odd - the expectation of finding more, which they may well, but very strange.

Maybe just me.

scottishmum007 · 28/02/2008 20:03

I think what is very odd is the fact that it's taken all this time to come to light. Why now? Why not 10 years ago? 20 years ago??
