'Dad, I'm going to thrash you'

It's actually got a serious point, about being competitive with your kids - or not, but he does it so well

I liked his column the other week about having to deal with all the tradesmen employed by his wife. And his wife didn't like the column always saying "my wife" so he started substituting "my life-partner Sean" instead.

I think he's very good. Have you read the Book Club transcript of the chat with him? he was very funny on that (as was morningpaper)

UnquietDad · 16/02/2008 12:07

I didn't realise he'd done it yet. Is it on the homepage?

His column about the cat and dog following him about and staring at him has gone into our family vocabulary. We tell each other what the cat is thinking: 'ooh, look, she's reading a book, maybe it's about feeding your cat'... 'Ooh, look, she's looking in the porch, maybe she's searching for cat food'...'Ooh, look, she's on the phone, maybe it's someone reminding her to feed the cat'.

The thing is, the cat does look as though that's exactly what she's thinking.
