Ralph Yarl Shooting

I have not stopped thinking about this case since I read about it yesterday. Miraculous that he survived but how utterly heartbreaking and traumatic for him and his family. There is little point in even mentioning gun control in America because I don't see anything changing for quite some time in that respect, If mass shootings in schools don't instigate change then nothing will.
This poor kid was shot twice despite posing no threat whatsoever. I can't get my head around it

Police charge white man for shooting Black teen boy who had wrong address

Ralph Yarl, 16, is in stable condition as outrage spread over the police’s initial decision to release the homeowner without charges

It’s an outrage and I hope the man who shot him receives punishment. The poor child was just at the wrong address, if he’d been white the shooter would have asked questions before shooting. It’s a racially aggravated attack and I hope the punishment reflects that, sadly with the state of the US, I fear that Ralph will not receive justice.

BombasticSideEye · 18/04/2023 21:34

yep, very clearly racially aggravated, yet I've already seen victim blaming commentary, completely ludicrous. Nothing about that mans actions are defendable.

Who the fuck shoots at a 16 year old child just for standing on their doorstep? And shot him twice! That poor young boy and his family. I hope that old man spends the rest of his life in prison.

Nimbostratus100 · 18/04/2023 21:41

love and prayers for a speedy recovery Ralph

Kittykatchunjy · 18/04/2023 21:41

I honestly find I just can't cope with all these beautiful, young black men (teenagers) being shot or killed. It's just so horrendous, the heartache guns cause in America are just beyond our comprehension.

Newuser82 · 18/04/2023 21:43

This is heartbreaking! Poor kid did absolutely nothing wrong and he gets shot twice! It's unbelievable!

Kittykatchunjy · 18/04/2023 21:44

He was going to pick up his younger twin brothers 😪. If I was black, living in America I would feel so utterly hopeless. It's awful, just so awful

Tuesdayvibes · 18/04/2023 21:47

Who the fuck opens the door holding a gun as well??
Poor boy 😞
I hope the guy doesn't escape justice. But he probably will...

FKATondelayo · 18/04/2023 21:47

Heartbreaking. I can't imagine how hard it must be to be a mother who has to send her children to school, to play, on errands every day and have to deal with this fear, this threat.

LaLaLouella · 18/04/2023 21:50

I can't stop thinking about it either - that beautiful boy shot after making a simple mistake.

America needs to take a long hard look at what guns, racism and the current laws are doing to their society.

HerRoyalNotness · 18/04/2023 21:52

Viola D’avis posted this one to her instagram too. Absolutely disgusting.

I feel like everyone here lives in such fear they’d rather shoot first. I hate it!

They won't though, thats the frustration. So many tragic stories like this, so many mass shootings, so many racially aggravated killings. I'm not sure how much more horrific they need a case to be to start taking some kind of action.

The Kaylin Gillis story is also horrific. They didn't even get out of the car!

Well not this guy the first shot was through the door!

Sending Ralph and his family thoughts, prayers, healing. That photo of him in the orchestra .. What a fine young man he looks. You can see the intelligence in his face.
So distressing to contemplate him with a head injury.

It is just so, so, so depressing. Do we need to remind Americans again that African-Americans were kidnapped from Africa, where they might have been a prince/Queen/governor/warrior? A sophisticated, respected human being.
How dare some white Americans reduce them to being lesser somehow. Just how dare they.

I feel so defeated reading this. It feels as though it will never end.

Well not this guy the first shot was through the door!

And the second shot was when he was laying on the ground. Awful.

TrudyProud · 18/04/2023 22:15

@Kittykatchunjy Ralph is not a man. He's a child/teenager.
Nobody of school age is a man/woman/adult.

I literally put 'teenagers' in brackets! Please don't be so pedantic over something this tragic

My feelings exactly 😞

BeetyAxe · 18/04/2023 22:33

This is one of the worst things I have ever heard about. Ralph seems to be such an intelligent and good young boy, going to collect his little brothers. His beautiful face in those orchestra pictures is nearly unbearable to look at, what has this animal done to him. Heartbreaking, depressing. Will keep everything crossed that somehow he and his family will recover from this.

Tuesdayvibes · 18/04/2023 22:48

"Well not this guy the first shot was through the door!"

Jesus. This is so far beyond any sort of comprehensible behaviour.
Gun ownership laws are behind so much tragedy it's heartbreaking

BabsDylan · 18/04/2023 22:51

I avoided the news yesterday as I assumed he’d been shot and killed. I was so relieved to hear that he’s survived it.

A truly horrific attack.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/04/2023 07:17

Don't get it. The normal reaction is to either ignore it..maybe look out of window and see who it is and ask? And as for the other one what?! People make mistakes and turn around on a drive all the time! How on earth do these lead to being shot?! The whole thing is madness

Imgladispentitwithyou · 19/04/2023 10:05

@TrudyProud yes of course: you’re right. Ralph is a child. I’m not sure why I used the word man😕

I have DC of a similar age. I suppose it’s the idea that you can see glimpses of the man or woman they will become. The child is father of the man and all that.

I can’t imagine what his mum or dad will be feeling like today. I’m praying that he makes a full recovery and that he is somehow recompensed.

Time for a reminder that Black Lives Matter.
