I have not stopped thinking about this case since I read about it yesterday. Miraculous that he survived but how utterly heartbreaking and traumatic for him and his family. There is little point in even mentioning gun control in America because I don't see anything changing for quite some time in that respect, If mass shootings in schools don't instigate change then nothing will.
This poor kid was shot twice despite posing no threat whatsoever. I can't get my head around it

It’s an outrage and I hope the man who shot him receives punishment. The poor child was just at the wrong address, if he’d been white the shooter would have asked questions before shooting. It’s a racially aggravated attack and I hope the punishment reflects that, sadly with the state of the US, I fear that Ralph will not receive justice.

yep, very clearly racially aggravated, yet I've already seen victim blaming commentary, completely ludicrous. Nothing about that mans actions are defendable.

Who the fuck shoots at a 16 year old child just for standing on their doorstep? And shot him twice! That poor young boy and his family. I hope that old man spends the rest of his life in prison.

I honestly find I just can't cope with all these beautiful, young black men (teenagers) being shot or killed. It's just so horrendous, the heartache guns cause in America are just beyond our comprehension.

Just awful. Not long after this a woman was shot when the driver of the car she was in pulled into the driveway of the wrong house and then turned around. I don’t even think they got out of the car.

This is heartbreaking! Poor kid did absolutely nothing wrong and he gets shot twice! It's unbelievable!

He was going to pick up his younger twin brothers 😪. If I was black, living in America I would feel so utterly hopeless. It's awful, just so awful

Heartbreaking. I can't imagine how hard it must be to be a mother who has to send her children to school, to play, on errands every day and have to deal with this fear, this threat.

I can't stop thinking about it either - that beautiful boy shot after making a simple mistake.

America needs to take a long hard look at what guns, racism and the current laws are doing to their society.

They won't though, thats the frustration. So many tragic stories like this, so many mass shootings, so many racially aggravated killings. I'm not sure how much more horrific they need a case to be to start taking some kind of action.

The Kaylin Gillis story is also horrific. They didn't even get out of the car!

Sending Ralph and his family thoughts, prayers, healing. That photo of him in the orchestra .. What a fine young man he looks. You can see the intelligence in his face.
So distressing to contemplate him with a head injury.

It is just so, so, so depressing. Do we need to remind Americans again that African-Americans were kidnapped from Africa, where they might have been a prince/Queen/governor/warrior? A sophisticated, respected human being.
How dare some white Americans reduce them to being lesser somehow. Just how dare they.

Nobody of school age is a man/woman/adult.

This is one of the worst things I have ever heard about. Ralph seems to be such an intelligent and good young boy, going to collect his little brothers. His beautiful face in those orchestra pictures is nearly unbearable to look at, what has this animal done to him. Heartbreaking, depressing. Will keep everything crossed that somehow he and his family will recover from this.

Don't get it. The normal reaction is to either ignore it..maybe look out of window and see who it is and ask? And as for the other one what?! People make mistakes and turn around on a drive all the time! How on earth do these lead to being shot?! The whole thing is madness

I have DC of a similar age. I suppose it’s the idea that you can see glimpses of the man or woman they will become. The child is father of the man and all that.

I can’t imagine what his mum or dad will be feeling like today. I’m praying that he makes a full recovery and that he is somehow recompensed.
