The UK now ranks 29th in a global chart of life expectancy, down from seventh place in 1952, according to new analysis.

Researchers warned that the UK was slipping down the global ranks, performing worse over the past seven decades than all G7 countries except the USA.

In the five years before the pandemic (2014-2019) life expectancy went down in almost one in five communities for women, which is shocking.

it's pretty shocking but too many people don't want to acknowledge the inequality.

Britain is particularly poor when it comes to life expectancy for women.

Britain is 39th in global rankings for female life expectancy.

Women in Spain live 3.4 years longer than women in the UK. We die on average 4.9 years earlier than women in Hong Kong.

This doesn’t surprise me with the way women aren’t taken seriously and expected to just get on with health issues that aren’t properly investigated.

The Tories are responsible for inadequate healthcare, social care, sewage in rivers and much else.

Maternal deaths are rising in the U.K.. We’re desperate for midwives, and still they charge people to train and cut costs everywhere. Cutting costs = cutting lives.

Well, whilst it looks initially bad, it's not as bad as you think.

"between 2014-19, life expectancy declined by an average of 0.17 years for women (around two months). "

It's only by 2 months! I'm not that bothered.

In northern towns, "already had lower life expectancy, and high levels of poverty, unemployment, and low education."

Whereas " increases of nine years or more were seen for men and women in some parts of central and north London."

9 years, on London, increase.

Pretty depressing especially as I’m in the north! My mum died at 83 (bowel cancer) and my grandmother at 89 (old age - she’d always been a fit and active woman).

On the male side, my father died 64. My eldest brother died at 65 and my youngest brother at 63. All had a history of alcoholism.

Both parents and siblings had been smokers, although quit the habit years ago. My mum and dad came from the generation when smoking was glamourised in the movies and when the local GP would have a smoke in his office!!! I constantly went on to them about cancer!!

I’m 51 and female. Never smoked, don’t drink, have a good education and job, travel and have experiences, have an outdoor (countryside) lifestyle with active hobbies such as cycling, swimming, walking and kayaking. However, I have a sweet tooth and have recently been told I am borderline diabetic which has been a massive wake up call (my parents and siblings were all diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes)!! I’m really trying to cut the sugar!!! I am terrible for having cake and chocolate - every single day!!!

I am making changes and, hopefully, I will see a longer life than my siblings and parents did.

Life expectancy id down just about everywhere because of covid (acute deaths, and then all the other linked things that are now showing up - doubled risk of diabetes, increased cardiovascular conditions, accelerated dementia etc)

Britain had some of the worst excess deaths from covid in the world and high covid rates. So it's entirely unsurprising really that the covid sequelae show worse in our life expectancy - everyone's is slipping, and ours has slipped that bit worse, enough to drop in the table
