Just seen this on the news, and not too sure what is really happening!

There is this link here

Those in Scotland may have some more news.

Dh thinks it's an accomodation vessel.

jofeb04 · 10/02/2008 13:05

lol at typical news reporting when they know nothing, perhaps a hazard of the 'instant news' we get these days

The Press Association reported that a "device" had been found on board.

However, Mr Neilson said "we are not sure about a device".

jofeb04 · 10/02/2008 13:13

lol, I heard it on the news and found a link on the website.

ITV has said it is a package, but that is all anyone is saying yet.

Ah, it sounds like one of the wives has brought her husband's sandwich box, and there's been a terrible misunderstanding

jofeb04 · 10/02/2008 13:43

We're a bit south of Aberdeen - all we know is there's been a shedload of helicopters overhead since about 1/4 to 12.

The thing is, since Piper Alpha, they go straight to Defcon 1 rather than risk any safety issues, so it may not be all it's drummed up to be - it may well be a defective Marmite sandwich

Desiderata · 10/02/2008 13:57

It's impossible to have a defective marmite sandwich!!

meanwhilebackattheranch · 10/02/2008 14:08

It's the middle of the North Sea, emotions run high, maybe there was peanut butter on there too?

meanwhilebackattheranch · 10/02/2008 14:08

Mind you, I still would

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 10/02/2008 16:23

My dh has worked on that rig before. At least its not a fire.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 10/02/2008 16:24

And a 23 year old woman has been detained on the rig Very odd.

expatinscotland · 10/02/2008 16:28

My dad spent a total of years on rigs.

It's more common to evac them in the Gulf of Mexico, because they get a lot of hurricanes there during the season.

It's a PITA, though.

Sometimes, the seizmic boats can evac some crew members, but that's usually only when their headed for shore themselves, as in the case of a hurricane.
