He also claims Russia didnt want to get involved in the conflict in Ukraine, but had to come to Ukraine's aid after desperate pleas from them to be defended against the West

oh yes, and it is only a little local dispute, the West are trying to stir up into something bigger

so isnt that a contradiction right there?

Do you think a single person in his audience believe a single word he is saying?

I only turned on by accident, but its sort of hypnotising...

If you look objectively you can easily see contradictions, but if you soundbite then you can take confirmation bias of the points that you like

Putins speeches are for various audiences, and there is also a degree of “I agree with this bit so it’s true, but that bit is made up to trick them people”

Russians (as a stereotype) are happy with a ‘strong’ leader and are content that speeches are just hot air, couple this with the informant mentality that your neighbour could be keeping a file on you then you openly agree with what is currently being said but internally know that it contradicts yesterday
