Are we thinking these spy balloons are linked to the supposed escalation of war on the 24th?

Maybe I’m feel twitchy but we’ve got reports of Chinese spy balloons over sensitive areas of the US/Canada. Then UFOs in the skies of Russia being reported by four different passenger planes. Do we think this stuff is linked?

I’m really surprised the Americans have left these alone, but they will know more about it than us.

I’ve read that’s what Putin has claimed as the date that the next ‘phase’ of the war will begin. Again he’s hinting about adding nuclear weapons and then suddenly there seem to be these stories about random stuff in the sky. Is it all linked?

I'm not really sure why people are worried about these balloons when spy satellites pass over so frequently and can see as much as a balloon could. Certainly there's nothing these balloons (which can't be guided) can see that would be relevant to the east in the Ukraine from over in the US.

I can't see Putin using nukes. He's an idiot, but those around him are not and realise that would be the end of Russia. As for the 24th, it's a year since they invaded which was a special date and the Russians seen to like making it easy for their opponents by making large offensives on important dates. Bit dumb really, but that characterizes Putin in recent years.

As for Putin's offensive, NATO are watching his troops very carefully and his ability to carry out a surprise attack is limited as a consequence and the Ukrainians have some very good equipment, some very good training and get good morale. They're are less of them, but it doesn't take modern weaponry that long to even up the odds.

They already blame China on the huge problem with Fentanyl in the US so I don’t think China would need to start trying to start another pandemic. They’re killing millions of Americans a year from that drug alone.

Plus plenty calling it a false flag event to cause and justify a US/China war.

China seem to be testing the US - I assumed it was sent in response to the finalisation of the military agreements with the Philippines. The US have know ‘closed the (security) arc’ around China. I think a response is to be expected.

As for Russia, they are getting weaker by the day, yes they might try one more push but given the lengths normal Russians are going to, to avoid being used as cannon fodder - the chronic low morale, poor equipment and the inability to replace the losses - the new offensive is the last thing Russia needs. If they escalate - if they do, in such a way that is globally unacceptable (biological war for instance) that will be the end of Putin’s dictatorship, and Russia as we know it, abd Putin knows it.
Even the Russians know there are global red lines - I would say China and India are helpful in that sense - neither want a catastrophe of epic proportions. Or WWW3 and at the very least the economic shockwaves it would create even setting aside the political fall out - and who knows how NATO would react.

I don’t feel overly concerned. This war is likely to trundle on until Putin dies sadly for Ukraine.

I’m still thoroughly confused. China sends a spy balloon into American airspace and is then furious when they shoot it down. They are now threatening retaliatory action when they were the ones being inflammatory and provocative in the first place. It’s just bizarre to me.

They interviewed some people on the street in China to ask their opinion on it. They asked "what do you think of America's decision to shoot down the balloon?" - their reply "it was a total over reaction, America are being aggressive, it was just a weather balloon"

Then they asked "What do you think China should do if America sent a balloon over China?"... They replied "Shoot it down!"

No hint of irony. It was hilarious

I just thought of (I think) the end of the original 'V' series and the premise of the blindness and plague in The Day Of The Triffids.

I do realise that those are fictional.

I have to wonder why these wouldn't have been shit down before they passed over land in the US though. They'd have presumably spotted them while they were still over the Pacific somewhere.
