BBC News - Nicola Bulley: Partner describes perpetual hell over missing mum
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-64450243

Just been reading about this. How awful for her partner and children. Really hope she is found soon

Presumably her phone is with the police..

Exactly
Surely the paper has got this wrong?

Sadless · 04/02/2023 20:25

Rebel2023 · 04/02/2023 20:19

Yes of course they can
They even have an entire major crimes unit Hmm
There was a TV show on them
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt7415970/

Everybody seems to think something else has happened to her that she's not in the water. So do people believe the police that she is in the water.

What evidence is there that she's in the water? Literally none

Moonlightdust · 04/02/2023 20:35

The woman who found the dog only 15 mins from the time the phone was put on the bench must’ve instinctively looked in the river when she evaluated the scene with the dog running loose and saw the phone/lead on the bench? It’s such a small timeframe that if Nicola had of fallen in just moments before the lady appeared around 9.35, she surely would’ve been spotted down that initial stretch of river in front of the bench which was not fast flowing?

Renoir56 · 04/02/2023 20:35

If the phone was in police possession on Tuesday I cannot see how it was possible that it was synchronised with the Fitbit. Sensationalist reporting that achieves nothing.

What evidence is there that she was abducted? None either. Doesn’t mean that either haven’t happened.

northernlites · 04/02/2023 20:39

Activation of the Fitbit and syncing of Fitbit are surely two different things.

it might have not been active but not synced to her phone.

at least it may give locational data if it’s one with GPS

They have taken it from a quote from a friend.
They have possibly got their Tuesdays mixed up. Maybe the friend meant the Tuesday prior to her disappearing.

Sadless · 04/02/2023 20:40

Fitbits can last 5 days from fully charged and sure it can sync without being near the phone.

northernlites · 04/02/2023 20:40

*typo

it might have been active but not have synced

Yes, I don't think a person can fall into slow shallow water and disappear without a single trace within 15 minutes. It doesn't make sense. There would be some evidence- a show, pieces of clothing stuck somewhere and the actual body

XelaM · 04/02/2023 21:29

a shoe not a show*

I read somewhere the part where Nicola would have fallen in is actually quite deep and there is a warning sign by the bench. The pictures of the police standing in the water were taken a bit further down the river.

coteliq · 04/02/2023 21:44

The police explained their hypothesis to the Sunday Times. See picture of article.

Omg either the same woman or a very very similar woman was on the actual news the other day 🤦🏼‍♀️ Yet the appeal to find the witness is still on tonight’s national news

The post has also been updated to include details of the caravan park CCTV. The only camera not working is the one that would have seen it all!

The pushchair looks the same one as well

This is the thing I don’t understand. Surely she would have looked at the stretch of river there to see if Nicola was in the water. As it was supposed low tide and so pretty shallow, and slow moving at the time, then I don’t understand how Nicola wasn’t spotted then, if she had gone into the river.
Maybe this makes more sense to someone local though ? I am only going by images of the riverside .

Dilemmaemmaaa · 04/02/2023 22:46

@EasterIssland if you go on Twitter and find the tweet or even just compare that to the other picture.. it’s the same shoes, same brown hair with the blonde through it. It’s 100% her. So why couldn’t they just have asked in the Main Street who it is instead of national news? 🙄

Yes, it is very obvious that is the same person.

Catstaps · 04/02/2023 22:53

If she drowned you sink so wouldn’t be seen from above

SirVixofVixHall · 04/02/2023 23:03

Well in water knee deep then you would, particularly as she was wearing a quilted gilet that would billow and float . The river was checked so quickly. It is the obvious thing, it seems the most likely thing, tragically, and yet I don’t understand how she wasn’t spotted in the water.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 04/02/2023 23:09

Sadly I think it is highly likely she has had a tragic accident and fallen in the water.

But just humouring the idea that isn’t the case, what else could have happened?

She could have left the area by herself. If it were unplanned (eg she had spontaneous amnesia or a mental episode) - how did she leave the area without being seen and then not been seen since. Why did the dog stay and not follow her. Completely implausible.

She could have staged her own disappearance. There’s seems no evidence at all she would want to disappear. And if you were going to stage your own disappearance, why would you choose to do it like that? How would she get her dog to stay while she walked off? Why do it in an area where you’re highly likely to bump into someone you know who will question why you’ve just left your dog and phone by the river? Why wasn’t she seen by anyone leaving the area? This is also completely and utterly implausible. It’s just not even thinkable she has left on her own.

So the only conceivable alternative to her having fallen in the river is that she left the area because someone else took her away against her will. Which means someone would have needed to enter the area without being seen by anyone, despite there being numerous dog walkers in the area. Either incapacitated or gained control of her without any loud noise or sign of struggle. And somehow got her away from the area without any witnesses, within a few minutes, in broad daylight at a busy time of day. It’s incredibly unlikely.

Whereas people do sadly drown by accident after walking near rivers fairly frequently. And it is common for bodies not to be found for a long time afterwards. Drowning can be quick and silent, particularly in cold water.

It’s incredibly tragic and my heart breaks for her poor family but the chances of it being anything else other than accidental drowning are tiny.

EasterIssland · 04/02/2023 23:12

Twitter omg. Apparently it was the sister and that’s why she’s now leaving with the partner. Couch police has found the solution of her disappearance and the real police are useless!
