I suppose she could have fallen in to the river but they should be explaining why they think that. They have never expected a third party involvement why?

So now they want clothing that might be found surely if she's in the water all that will still be with her.
Very confused feel sorry for her family and friends they must be going through hell and if it's true waiting for her body to show up somewhere now.

Sal

I suppose if there was a third party involved there would've been signs of a struggle - the ground looks quite muddy in the pics.

Eatentoomanyroses · 03/02/2023 16:32

I think what she was saying in the conference was that they’ve been able to ascertain that she hadn’t left the area , so the only place that she could have gone is in the water. They’ve decided she’s gone into the water by a process of elimination. It’s the only plausible explanation. She seemed to be saying that the river is more complicated than it looks, deeper in some places than others. That’s why they’ve been consulting with experts to try and figure out how she might have travelled in the water. It’s horrible. Her poor family.

Catstaps · 03/02/2023 16:34

That’s at fleetwood. The police said the water at that point was 18 feet

User435787532 · 03/02/2023 16:41

The key piece of information I take from the press conference is what NB was wearing: An ankle-length gilet, a coat underneath that. Tight black jeans, ankle wellies. The water may not be deep or fast but it would be very cold. If you go off balance and fall at an awkward angle, become disoriented. The ankle length gilet is huge factor and all the clothing weighed down. I guess everyone is desperate for some hope but it sadly seems a very likely circumstance she has drowned. I hope they find her and her family can have some peace.

User435787532 · 03/02/2023 16:45

I’m actually questioning the gilet thing as it says it on sky news but not sure if it’s on police report. Hope it’s not misinformation as it seems a pretty key detail to me.

Peverellshire · 03/02/2023 16:46

@User435787532 if she fell by bench, water relatively shallow, not fast moving, weighed down, she’d presumably not make much progress down the river?

If search started an hour or two later around where she fell, the odds must be good she’d be found. If the search began days later, not so good.

justgettingthroughtheday · 03/02/2023 16:48

It just seems so unlikely that she's gone in the river - leaving no trace of a fall. She didn't cry out or make noise whilst falling. The water not being deep or fast flowing and her disappearing underwater and not being seen as she traveled downstream! Nor any of her clothing being found in the water. Wellies I would have expected to have come loose and have been found?
But none of the other scenarios seem any more likely.
I just feel so deeply sad and sorry for her two little girls. It's just beyond dreadful

The police officer stated that's what she was wearing on the news conference this afternoon

The police officer in the press conference said she was wearing a Fitbit and they are investigating.
Can a Fitbits movements be be tracked in the way a mobile phones pings to phone masts can be tracked?

That's the key info I picked out too. I am wondering if the fit bit pings like a mobile phone also.

Catstaps · 03/02/2023 16:52

When you fall in a river and drown you don’t make a noise you hold your breath which leads to a lack of oxygen and dizziness ..you then take in water , panic and can drown in a minute or two. You then sink and the undercurrent of the river will move you along sometimes quite far.

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 03/02/2023 16:58

The Fitbit may definitely be the key.

People often shout or make a noise when they fall! Not everybody I grant you but lots do!

Doesn’t it need to be near her phone/a phone for the data to be downloaded?

I don’t think there’s any way of knowing (if she did fall in the water) whether she shouted or cried out. I don’t know if she had AirPods on too she would have been very disorientated. Regarding her body not being found although they started searching straight she could have drifted a long way in the first hour or so while she was first missing. Once they start searching they can’t search all of the river at the same time and they may have just got unlucky searching in the wrong places at the wrong time. Although questions remain the alternatives are far less probable. If I think about it it’s actually highly dangerous to walk by a river in those floor length coats and not something I had ever considered. Virtually impossible to swim I imagine.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 03/02/2023 17:32

Had a quick look at the hashtag on Twitter just now. So many absolutely batshit and/or nasty posts about her partner.

The whole thing is incredibly sad.

So apparently the dog was normally off it’s harness.

I was wondering this. Where did you see that please?

coteliq · 03/02/2023 17:49

Sadly I think this is a freak accident. Hope they find her soon.

She might have got to the bench and sit down to write and send email and log into call. Willow might have wanted to keep going so pulling the lead. Thinking that Willow knows the place so well she took his harnesh off, left it on the bench, and let he run loose. Perhaps that was a lapse of judgement while trying to type and send the email with both hands.

Once she's logged into the call she might have realised Willow was not visible. She then left the phone got to edge to look for Willow. She might have lost balance, hit her head, lost consciousness, fell to the bottom of the water and be swept away by stronger current at the deep level. Willow when returning to the bench could not find her. Her heavy clothing might have weighed her down.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 03/02/2023 17:50

The temperature of the water has to be factored in. It will have been extremely cold which can cause shock.

DillDanding · 03/02/2023 18:03

I agree. I’d be amazed if this was nothing more than a freak accident.

MrsDrDear · 03/02/2023 18:05

Regarding the harness coming off, I've seen one picture of the dog in a doodlebone boomerang harness. We have one of these and our dog often slips out of it. You don't even have to pull hard.

coteliq · 03/02/2023 18:14

The thing I still don't understand is why aren't there any trace of the fall? Why did the police not cordone off the edge to find trace of the fall and why did the parents say there was no evidence of falling or slipping?

How can a human body fall into water like a rock?

mumyes · 03/02/2023 18:21

The police seem very certain..,
And based on the little they've shared, I don't understand why they're so certain...
Or why they'd still be asking fir dash am footage.

It's just weird.

monkeysmum21 · 03/02/2023 18:37

The fact the police said from the beginning there’s no suspects and that the phone was left on the bench, made me believe it’s a suicide. I’m still not sure how it’s possible the dog doesn’t react or show to the husband or others.

What is it that you expect the dog to do?

Maybe she fainted or toppled forwards and just went like that?
