It was on the radio, the dad asked the bar man to dilute his little girls OJ/squash and he used cleaning fluid instead of water.

how on earth do you confuse cleaning fluid with water?

Frizbe · 05/02/2008 15:43

Just saw this, horiffic, I really hope the little girl recovers as well as possible, am truely horrified for her and her parents/family
Was wondering if the cleaning fluid was in a dispensing line? but then that would have made it fizzy surely, as those are carbonated based

Well when you think that it would probably have bottled water, maybe it was a cleaning fluid such as turps or something? But it said the dad tried it, I wonder if that was before or the little girl had it?

Either way, it doesn't sound like any malice was involved, I expect the barman is feeling terrible, and I hope the little girl makes a fine recovery.

Having worked as a pub assistant manager in my time I can say that cleaning fluid should not have been behind the bar in the first place.

We always had to make sure when using cleaning products they were in clearly labeled bottles and never left behind the bar.

She is off the critical list and fully conscious.

Kimi - that's true about COSHH guidelines - but I wonder if they have such guidelines in Cyprus?? Or if they do whether whoever left it behind the bar had been trained properly?

Triggles · 06/02/2008 20:13

NJ - the article I read said that the dad tasted it after the girl drank some and started crying in pain, which makes sense. No way would he have tasted it first and then passed it to her.

Kimi - remember this is Cyprus we are talking about. Health and Safety is not the best!!
