Did you hear about that couple in Germany who throw their 2 year old out of the window as the block of flats was on fire and tha=ey thought it would be the only way he would survive. He did a fireman caught him and took him to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. I'm not sure if his parents survived but I know at 9 people died.

Oh wow I opened this expecting to be horrified, but that's amazing I hope his parents are ok.

Buda · 05/02/2008 11:24

They must have been so desperate to do this. Hope his parents made it too.

omg!hope parents were ok-what an amazing decision that must have been!

It was so lucky. It must have been a such a hard decison. Either risk him dying from burns etc and hoping fire fighters get to them in time or throw him out and hope they catch him.

Gosh - that's terrifying. It's very like that Pulitzer winning photo of the woman and child falling from a burning fire escape in Boston years ago. In that case the woman died but the child survived and the photo led to much tighter building safety regs in Boston. Let's hope something similar happens in Germany.

ruty · 05/02/2008 14:59

Oh god that made me cry. How wonderful the child was ok. Do hope parents are too.

Bouncingturtle · 05/02/2008 18:11

Just seen it on Five news - parents ok, but mum still in the hospital. Sadly at least 9 people including 5 children have died on the fire
That child is a little hero, and the fireman who caught her is a real hero!

I think you are right, Cali. Oh and baby is 9mth old! Lucky little girl!

We had the fire brigage round this week and they told us to chuck the kids out the window if the house was on fire, I was like 'are you mad' but it is the lesser of the evils.

I sobbed when I saw the report on the news. (In front of MIL) I think MIL thinks I'm a wimp. She was so small and it was a huge gamble to take. Thank goodness she survived.

WCL dd1's class had people from the fire brigade come to their class the other day, and they were told that if they were trapped in an upstairs room, to throw everything soft they could find, out onto the ground and jump.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 07/02/2008 11:49

Baby was a 9 month old boy, caught by a policemen who fell to the ground with the impact. His 2 year old brother died.

ruty · 07/02/2008 13:32

absolute hero for catching him.
