Another SoS for NI, another pointless suit

I am just so tired. Politics in Northern Ireland doesn't work. Media and politicians keep talking about restoring the devolved institution of Stormont like it will solve all the problems...when it has been an expensive talking shop of incompetence waste and short-sighted actions. For Christ sake we haven't had a plan for government since 2012 and even then it wasn't fully agreed on as there was a small encyclopedia of clauses and exceptions. The world has changed since 2012 and yet we have no government plan about how to face it and no budget to plan on meeting future needs.

N.I, it's like a bunch of children who need an adult to come and sternly tell them to play nice. Yet, the adult in the room has never parented before, thinks children can be reasonable thinking and feeling beings and has no actual plan to solve things.

Chris Heaton Harris announces he will call an election. I suppose he thought it was a lovely threat and would push NI parties to talks or to do...something? But he was thinking like a British politician. Northern Ireland politicians see deadlines and threats as challenges to their ego. Deadlines here are made of tissue paper and there is nothing parties love more than a chance to show what big boys they are by digging their heals in and not doing what the SoS wants.

Now Chris Heaton Harris has had his bluff called and he is left looking like a right gnome. Powerless, pointless and egg on his face. He obviously has no plan and no real leverage because he has proven himself to be spineless. Like...what would an election even do? Nothing, cause positions and circumstances haven't changed. The tribalism here means the same idiots will vote for the same idiots.

There will be talks about talks and more hot hair spewed as SoS twiddles his thumbs. All the while, my mortgage sky rockets, my fuel and food food bills reach new heights. The NHS is a shambles, the school I work for is going bankrupt while teachers leave the profession left and right as the stress from schools upping workloads to squeeze every last penny of worth from us before we collapse burns us out faster. The police have a massive funding black hole and no-one has any plans to fix any of it.

But sure...the SoS will have some new grand plan to tell us next week he says...and its the protocol that is the real problem for all the northern Ireland people....not any of the hundreds of bread and butter issues that are being ignored as people, freeze, starve and cave under mountains of pressure.

I am just so exhausted and angry. 😡😥

I understand your frustration, but the SoS can't do anything about those things. The SoS is limited to representing Northern Ireland in the cabinet, overseeing the operation of the devolved administration and a few matters that are reserved - security, human rights, some public enquiries, and administration of elections.
