no comments on opinion - just comments on reported info during trial

Please let's not get this thread deleted people.

Anyone following along? I'm curious as to the silence on the Sky News site where earlier and yesterday there were posts every 10/15minutes there's been nothing for hours.

OP posts:

You can discuss Lucy Letby trial freely on Reddit and they don't delete.

And if you commit contempt of court in dong so you risk being prosecuted.

Interesting how so many are saying ‘let’s hear the evidence before we judge.’

i totally agree

however I remember having exactly this conversation about Prince andrew - I’ve never seen the evidence against him, yet he’s presumed guilty

He hasn't been charged with a criminal offence.

It is terrifying that this trial is going to take so long. But the evidence for the prosecution looks on the face of it to be extremely damning.

It always does when the prosecution gives its opening speech. It means nothing. They're not going to say "We hope to God that the witnesses will say the same as they did in their witness statements and won't forget it all or retract it or be exposed as rank liars, we hope that you'll think that the documents say what we claim they say but to be honest they could go either way, but fingers crossed".

Novum · 13/10/2022 20:27

@DrinkFeckGirls, no evidence has been heard or produced yet, so you can't possibly say what "all the evidence suggests".

Novum · 13/10/2022 20:37

@MayThe4th, we don't know that the babies were killed by anyone. That is what the trial is about. Proclaiming that they were is contempt of court.

FayeGovan · 13/10/2022 20:51

If all the deaths weren't an accident, why on earth would someone do this?
I know that's the million dollar question but i dont I'd ever understand it. Although i know no one here has an answer.

Hillcrest2022 · 13/10/2022 23:43

There's a lot of damning evidence against her.
If she killed those babies she needs to face justice.

See also Harold Shipman. IDK, it's baffling.

It really is...and he looked like the sort of dr you'd happily take your mum too. Just as she looks like a friendly nurse. Although i know innocent until proved guilty. But still.

But 2 babies were poisoned with insulin when no baby on the entire ward required insulin. That’s very troublesome

And yet a lot of people described him as arrogant, controlling, he was even known as doctor death in some circles.

And I saw a documentary about him and they played some of the video tapes, and while obviously I wouldn’t necessarily have pegged him as a murderer, he was so, so creepy and menacing sounding on those interviews.

Desperado40 · 22/10/2022 05:40

A possible theory, would be that a person doing this would be looking for attention. A form of Munchhousen by proxy?
Maybe looking for attention from colleagues (poor me, isn't it terrible that a baby died on my shift). I know this sounds absolutely mad, but this the only thing I can think of. Trying to befriend parents through grief is another possibility.

CheapAsChip · 22/10/2022 07:05

If she’s found guilty then I think munchausen by proxy is the most likely motive.

AutumnScream · 22/10/2022 08:47

Its no longer called munchausen by proxy its now known as fabricated or induced illness (FII).

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/10/2022 08:51

I always saw this condition as someone inflicting something on themselves to gain attention or onto someone else for similar attention.
How would this work in this case?

True. Most lay people don’t know that term.

@AutumnScream the “by proxy” bit means that someone (most commonly a mother) will induce illness in a child to gain attention/sympathy for themselves.

Nickiansell · 27/10/2022 03:38

I had to chip in, it’s a archaic system. A person until proven by the court as guilty only then should be exposed to public and press. But sadly it mirrors how the majority of society enjoyable immerse themselves in other peoples troubles. They have absolutely no empathy for anyone other than themselves, revelling and judging the hardships of others whilst living in their glass houses!. But their where the money is. Conditioned, manipulated and blind to the fact of it.
It angers me when local and national news both on and offline think it’s acceptable to name and shame a suffering addict for begging or shoplifting. When did we decide it’s acceptable to humiliate the already humiliated. Jeremy Kyle was taken off air for a reason.
Mothers on Facebook naming and shaming teenagers for actions that are just part of growing up. Declaring it must be down to neglectful parenting.
When did such uneducated, ignorant people become so blind to their horrendous awful behaviour.
I always think, that for such a prosperous developed country such as ours we are in fact hugely backwards and dysfunctional, and for me the proof is glaring us all in the face, too many kids are unhappy, too many adults are unhappy. We’re all mental health mental health yet the majority are contributing to mentally unwell country.. ignorant to even that fact…
But then as someone said many many years ago “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”

NotmyRLname · 10/07/2023 22:36

the last two episodes 45 and 46 have changed my mind. I no longer think there’s enough evidence to convict her. I am still unsure of if she did it but I certainly wouldn’t like to be in the jury.
anyone else changed their mind?

Jigslaw · 10/07/2023 22:38

I have a lot of empathy for the jury, not an easy task. I actually attended court one of the days as due to my job I've been very interested in following the case. I can't talk about it as such but it's worth remembering as well that they hear a load of evidence that doesn't get mentioned in press reports so there's even more to consider.

Thought I was missing it! I'll stop searching now and crack on with work :)

NotmyRLname · 11/07/2023 13:22

I wonder how long the jury will take? Do they go home between days if it runs into days?

Jigslaw · 11/07/2023 13:25

I think they go home at the end of everyday with the instruction not to discuss anything even with eachother until they're back in session the next day?

Of course. Some juries can take many days to decide. At some stage, they will be advised that the court will accept a majority (11-1) verdict. Or it can drop to 10-2. Ultimately, the jury could be hung and therefore she could get a re-trial.
