Reports of trouble in East Leicester. I don't live there but do have an interest in the area. Does anyone local know exactly what's going on? The news reports are pretty vague...

Don't think he will encounter any trouble in Oadby, OP. The city centre should be fine as well.

Thank you, Oadby reminds me of Didsbury in Manchester. Then you drive through other parts and it's like driving through Wythenshawe.

Live in Leicester. Leicester Mercury says two arrested after an unplanned protest in Belgrave Road.

Leicester is fabulous for all cultures living together so this is sad news.

Thank you for clarifying this as my lad has just moved to Oadby to go to Uni and when I saw the headlines I was a bit worried, will just worry about him going into the city on nights out ect.

your Son will be fine in Oadby. It’s lovely.

We went there for a wedding a few years ago and like any big place you have the better and not so nice places.

Years before that a mate went to uni there and we used to have a lo when out for drinks

Like any place you can get the odd bit of problem

Great work by the police as usual.

Any violence and hatred is excused if done in the name of culture or religion.

I do think there is something of a news blackout when it comes to issues around race and immigration, particularly those that touch upon illegal immigration and housing. It's certainly the case in Ireland right now. I don't expect this post to stay up very long. There are zero Mn threads on the situation in the Channel, for instance.

I think part of the problem is with any regional news. If this has been going on for nearly a month now it goes to show how bad things are for information, news and communications within Britain. The grooming gangs issue could be a bit of both problems as well.

The city centre is rough as anything. I used to work off Humberstone gate and there were frequently people dealing drugs openly on the side streets, people off their heads on spice and urinating in the street. It was grim.

Interestingly, it's also not my personal opinion but a fact and got lots of coverage in the media.

It's about time something was done about that Noneofurbusiness. It's been going on for 30 years or more. And the victims still see these monsters who gang raped them, out on their local streets.

Assuming your son is white or black, he certainly won’t be caught up in this trouble. It’s an Asian sectarian thing, and nothing to do with people of other ethnicities or religions.

There is unlikely to be any trouble outside Waitrose in Oadby. 😉

SierraSapphire · 18/09/2022 16:55

Mainly on the basis that there is no Waitrose in Oadby anymore, it's now Lidl.

The person who decided where the border would be had never been to India before and took just 2 weeks to decide where the border should go. The 2 Communities were barely consulted or if they were it was the Hindus as they were traditionally in more Govt posts than Muslims. They were undecided about where to put Kashmir for a while but then some white men in a room hundreds of miles away just thought “Oh Sod it, let’s stick it in India” despite the Muslim Majority.
The whole thing was a shit show and some estimates say over 1 million people died as a result and possibly up to 2 million. The British handled it badly and the repercussions are still being felt not just in India but around the world

The British administration oversaw Partition, and it was in their power to stop it happening, and by extension the resulting disaster was their fault, but it certainly wasn’t their idea, and nor was the violence that characterised that period. I’m happy to lay the blame for that squarely at the feet of the Muslim League and Hindu Mahasbha who threw fuel onto preexisting communal resentments.
How much any of that has to do with what’s going on in Leicester I don’t know. As previous posters have said, people with a meaningful stake in society aren’t normally tempted to go out rioting of an evening, but whether the (presumed) alienation is due to poverty or failure to integrate again I don’t know, probably a bit of both.

Why has this post not been deleted? Indians (Hindus) are idiots who believe in statues? Wtf?

converseandjeans · 18/09/2022 23:30

There's loads of clips on TikTok about it.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2022 21:07

@Sunsea21 I also grew up in Leicester and don't remember anything of the sort. As a PP said. Everyone rubbed along pretty well.

Sunsea21 · 21/09/2022 21:19

@Toddlerteaplease amazing. It’s almost like different people have different experiences isn’t it 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
