article here and it was on Jeremy Vine today.

So , was Lord Alton 'had', or was it a platform for his own beliefs in some way?

hmm yes that's interesting.
there are lots of reasons why two people might not be aware that they were adopted, or might not know their true birthday, and might not see their birth certificate, or their borth certificate might not have all the information on it.
I do know (from a very reliable source) of a brother and sister who married unknowingly, had a child who was seriously ill and when they had genetic counselling it transpiredthey were very closely related. not twins though.

if all details were kept secret then you could make up any story you wanted really couldn't you?

What makes me is the fact no-one has come forward to say that they knew them/knew how they felt etc. When cases like this come to light there's always a "concerned friend" that comes out of the woodwork to have their story heard and to prophet from the experience, but nothing.

the other thing that makes me think it is a hoax is that if the twins existed, the tabloids or someone would surely have tracked them down, or someone they know

most people have a price, sadly.

When Lord Alton made this statement, several people said "how could you get married and not have seen your DH/DWs birth certificate". Hmm! I've never seen my DHs birth certificate - I've no idea where he was born, what time or whether both parents were listed. I do know what the date was though.

I didn't post that to say the story might be true by the way. It might be true. But I doubt it - as you say, no supporting witnesses. Not even the judge in question has confirmed the story.
