I feel I should keep my child at home. Going ahead with ordinary activities feels wrong.

Well i still need to work. So i hope not!

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/09/2022 21:57

Second thread asking this.
Of course not. It's sad but life and the economy must go on.

Skinnermarink · 08/09/2022 21:57

That would be quite ridiculous, phone in sick to work yourself if you must (which would also be completely ridiculous) but don’t keep your child off bloody school over it!

Shinyandnew1 · 08/09/2022 21:57

There is a post on another thread tonight saying schools locally to them have closed tomorrow, but I have seen no evidence of this. I can’t imagine any state schools will close.

Possibly for the funeral, if it’s on a week day.

eurochick · 08/09/2022 21:58

My child's school announced this evening that it is closing tomorrow. Stupid decision. Loads of parents shafted.

Honestly I would be livid, I can’t magic up childcare out of my arse while I’m trying to work.

BobaTeaPoops · 08/09/2022 21:59

I mean I sent my kids to school the day my father died.

So not expecting schools to close or kids to stay off at all. No.

Is this a state school? The DfE have explicitly told schools to stay open, so this sounds strange.

Whaaat? This is joke, surely?

LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2022 22:03

Private school I'm guessing

GingerScienceFreak · 08/09/2022 22:05

Nope. DfE guidance email to schools says to remain open

Is this a private school? Contact the DfE if not.

PurpleDaisies · 08/09/2022 22:08

Open here.

It’s really important for kids to be in school. They need the certainly and continuity after all the crap from last year. There’s really no need to close schools.

eurochick · 08/09/2022 22:10

It's an independent school. Usually one with better judgement than this!

ByeByeMr · 08/09/2022 22:15

Oh fgs it's getting ridiculous

Craftybodger · 08/09/2022 22:16

I would expect schools to be open tomorrow but closed for the day of the funeral.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 08/09/2022 22:16

Why though?

lljkk · 08/09/2022 22:17

We all know PP disliked "a fuss". Last thing QE2 would have wanted was to disrupt people's lives.

Ffs. Teachers don’t decide to close the school. That’s a decision for the head.

bookworm14 · 08/09/2022 22:19

Schools should be staying open according to the DfE. schoolsweek.co.uk/schools-should-stay-open-during-queens-national-mourning-government-says/

Abraxan · 08/09/2022 22:19

My school will be remaining open. We haven't sent a message to confirm this as we didn't feel the need. Everyone will be expecting us to be open, unless stated to the contrary.
We have posted a condolences message in our website and social media, but nothing about remaining open.

Even for the funeral I'm not sure whether schools will be closed. There will be no bank holidays for anyone from what I've read. If it is in a weekend there isn't likely to be a closure. If a week day it will depend on what the government say, but it's not overly likely from what I've read online. There will be a two minute silence, but not necessarily any closures.

We may be more likely to close for a bank holiday on the day of the coronation.

scrivette · 08/09/2022 22:20

My Primary age DC are sad, they will want to talk about it with their teachers and school friends rather than have to sit in their rooms whilst I have to work.

I support a day off for the funeral but not for tomorrow.

FourChimneys · 08/09/2022 22:21

I fear that a total overreaction has already started.
