Call me naieve but the criminal justice system has worked fantastically well for me and will carry on to do so and that is a FACT. I know exactly the ins and outs of what happens when you are released from prison and you are watched and monitored like a hawk

hercules · 01/12/2004 14:07

So what should have happened to these boys at the age of ten that would have been a suitable punishment? Should capital punishment been brought back? Should we have allowed ten year old boys into an adult prison with no protection?

spacedonkey · 01/12/2004 14:08

Perhaps they should have been torn limb from limb live on TV?

tammylove · 01/12/2004 14:09

Love you too jools x

Ok my best friend was raped by a stranger and beaten at the age of 14. He was caught the same night and admitted what he had done. Too much evidence to deny. He got 8 months. No justice. FACT

A family memeber of mine, did something stupid on a daytrip. There was a bunch of them fooling around with a box of rubbish and a lighter, get the picture. The coach caught fire and a man got stuck inside and he died.
This was tragic and accidental, this family member of mine did their best to get him out. My family member acted dangerously and foolishly that day and so did the others.
I love my family but a life was taken and he got 3 years. Justice? to ways of looking at it a spose, but they are family so i dont say much.

The list is endless

I think that when they served their time in the detention centre, at 18 they should have been sent to an adult prison for some cold hard time.

And im aware of what happens when someone is released from prison i have seen it first hand.

spacedonkey · 01/12/2004 14:11

So Tammy, if you had been the judge, what punishment would you have meted out to T&V?

tammylove · 01/12/2004 14:11

Space no, not on tv.

spacedonkey · 01/12/2004 14:12

So behind closed doors would have been OK then?

I think been releastic now, all anger aside.
I would have put them in a detention centre foe 8 years, then given them 2 life sentences deducting the 8 they have served, which i think would leave42, halve it for parole and that would leave 21 years in an adult prison.

fastasleep · 01/12/2004 14:14

MidnightMass, I agree with you too!

tammylove · 01/12/2004 14:16

Im not saying they should have been hung drawn and quatred as children, that is wrong.

But as adults now, they should take responsibility for what they did.

spacedonkey · 01/12/2004 14:16

I am relieved tammy that you are not serious about wanting to see them torn limb from limb.

MINNIE1 · 01/12/2004 14:16

If that was my child i really think i would do the same as Jamies mum is doing.... That women held jamie for 9 months and shared life with him for 2 years, and then to find that 2 boys 8 years older then her own child had murdered her pride and joy.... Would you let the dust settle if it was your child??

When they were at the train tracks with jamie they must have known that this is wrong!!!!!

Also these lads should be tagged and there movements monitored, If there truely sorry for there actions they would'nt mind being tagged..

Sorry to offened anyone this is only my opion..

fairyfly · 01/12/2004 14:17

and what would that of achieved tammylove, when they are released in two decades, what then, a pat on the back, or more speculation about hanging, what is the outcome of your idea

tammylove · 01/12/2004 14:18

And space, no i dont think behind closed doors either. you seem to think i mean harm to them as 10 yr olds.
I am saying now 2004 they are pretected, they are adults, they didnt pay hard enough for the crime they did. The tax payer shouldnt be responsible now for them as adults to keep them safe.

spacedonkey · 01/12/2004 14:18

The taxpayer paid for them to be looked after in prison. Would you say that's wrong too?

popsycal · 01/12/2004 14:19

The tax payer would still be responsible if they were locked up for life....

tammylove · 01/12/2004 14:21

The outcome of my idea is simple, DONT do the crime and you wont do the time.
I think it will go one of two ways, they will harden up and come out just as bad or they will reflect on the evil they did. 21 yrs of soul searching if you like.

I cant honestly answer that but what i can say is i dont blame Denise for wanting more.

spacedonkey · 01/12/2004 14:23

I can't blame her for wanting more either.

tammylove · 01/12/2004 14:23

Yes the tax payer would, but surely it costs more, for new id' constant protection, new passports etc.
We dont know where these animals are, or who they are. What if your daughter married one would you want him as the father of your grandchildren?

spacedonkey · 01/12/2004 14:25

I don't know if it costs more to protect them outside prison or keep them in prison - it would be interesting to know.

popsycal · 01/12/2004 14:25

This is hardly related....but I do know that prison food costs more to make than school dinners...

motherinfestivemood · 01/12/2004 14:25

But that's what I'm saying. How can they marry? How can they share their lives with someone else? They can have a shell of it, but they cannot tell another person something which absolutely defines them in so many ways.

And of course this has absolutely nothing to do with the way any one of us would feel if somebody hurt our children.
