sorry. 8. my point still stand as i see it. but like i said before, it's a whole different view both of human nature and the criminal justice system.

Gobbledigook · 28/11/2004 19:02

It's because of the 'softly softly, oh dear the criminal is the victim really' approach that many people are taking that this country is in the state that it is.

I'm afraid I perhaps come from a different perspective being very close to police officers who quite frankly put up with all sort of shit from scumbags every day - they couldn't care less because they know that nothing that anyone can do to them is really that bad. They laugh in the face of the police every day because they know they'll get away with it.

Again, just talking generally about the 'so called' justice system.

Agree with all your posts sophable.

yummymummy123 · 28/11/2004 19:04

Someone said that one day they might have children of there own. And if this is the case I do beleive(or hope-sorry I'm evil!)that they will feel so guilt ridden when they look at their son/daughter and think of what they have done.

hercules · 28/11/2004 19:05

Gdg - I am a secondary teacher from a family of police officers - my sister is in the murder squad even, i put up with a lot of shit everyday.

WideWebWitch · 28/11/2004 19:07

Agree sophable.

Gobbledigook · 28/11/2004 19:14

Oh well, you're a more forgiving person than I am then.

My brother (police officer) had to be AIDS tested recently cos some scumbag spat all over him with his bloody saliva - his uniform was in such a state it had to be thrown away. I'm afraid I couldn't give a toss what happens to the nasty piece of work.

Socci - I think many of us are allowing our emotions to cloud an objective view. I am because I'm thinking about myself in that position.

However, I do think that society as a whole has gone a bit 'soft' and it's not doing us any favours.

Yes, we need somewhere in the middle but it's so difficult to find it.

80sMum · 28/11/2004 19:25

"So why is it that things went so wrong for these boys. How were they capable of this when others are not? I'm not sure that I believe in the concept of 'evil' as a force, but what did make this happen"
hmb, these are deep and complex questions. What a pity they weren't explored during the trial. All the evidence due to be submitted by Social Services on the boys' backgrounds was deemed 'inadmissable' so the jury was not in possesion of all the facts.

peskykids · 28/11/2004 19:57

I've only just had time to actually read the 'article' (and I use the term loosely) from the NOTW that started this thread. It's utterly reppellent - sensationalist and bloodthirsty. I feel for Denise Fergus having her rage and sadness channelled and manipulated in this way just for an increase in sales. It disgusts me that her sorrow can be 'used' in this manner.

the article and the tone it takes are inexcusable imho. i'm still not sure why james' mother wants to see the children (now adults) that murdered him...but they trying to get any sense out of this article is futile.

thanks www and hercules, the feeling is entirely mutual.

peskykids · 28/11/2004 20:06

The whole piece is in very poor taste. It reeks of manipulating someone emotionally vulnerable using a big wodge of cash.

Heathcliffscathy · 28/11/2004 20:06

sorry: but then not but they!

misdee · 28/11/2004 20:07

maybe she just needs to see them sophable. maybe only then she can move on.

Tinker · 28/11/2004 20:08

What is worrying though is a) who are all these people willing to tip her off and? b) did she approach the NOTW (through her "advisers")? Why is the 'story' only released now if it happened in September?

WideWebWitch · 28/11/2004 20:09

Bet it's to do with an otherwise slow and quiet circulation month Tinker. What a vile rag it is.

this country 30-40 years ago, beetroot. does anybody remember the tv program a few years back about Mary Bell connected with Gitta Sereny's book? part of this very interestingly contrasted the tone of the Sun's coverage of the Mary Bell case, with the tabloid coverage of the James Bulger Case - the tone of the press coverage of the Mary Bell case IIRC was far less quick to condemn than one might have imagined.
