ah, I thought 500k sounded low. Taking into account loss of earnings.

expatinscotland · 16/01/2008 18:44

but c'mon, she's not Brad Pitt, commanding millions per film.

wonder how much she took the surgeon who blew up her lips for.

Susiemj · 16/01/2008 18:46

the highest they've ever paid out - to one of the richer people. a disgrace.

expatinscotland · 16/01/2008 18:47

apparently her performances were worth that.

LOL.

louii · 16/01/2008 18:49

So does that open the floodgates now for everyone who has a caught a hospital infection or is it only the rich and famous that get compo?

ScoobyDoo · 16/01/2008 18:49

Hey they do say the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, this is a classic....

Mog · 16/01/2008 18:49

Will insurance companies pay this?

xtc · 16/01/2008 18:50

She would have earned £5million! No i don't believe it. She hadn't been in anything for ages had she.

mumemma · 16/01/2008 18:55

I don't begrudge anyone the money but as it comes out of an insurance fund anyway, the amounts paid to the average non-celeb/lower earning person should be higher and take into account the level of care and support they need which is often not the case.

Blimey I thought £500,000 was alot!?

MrsKitVonD · 16/01/2008 18:59

LMAO at how she broke her ribs!

xtc · 16/01/2008 18:59

I still can't get my head around the comment 'It's the highest we have ever paid out. It's high because she was earning a lot of money before this happened.'

er what in Merseybeat and Where the Heart is?

Desiderata · 16/01/2008 19:08

Bearing in mind she looked like a porpoise before she fell off a bed and onto a table (and how the fuck did that happen?), I fail to see how she could have lost £5 MIL in earnings ... unless she had a long-term contract with SeaLife.

mumemma · 16/01/2008 19:12

I remember when Caroline Quentin overlooked her agent swindling her out of £1m or something and went to court over it - apparently she earned a fortune from voiceovers and ads. I think Leslie Ash did the same - she probably got a packet for those embarrassing Homebase ads she did with Neil Morrissey.

FFS.

NoIHaventChangedMyName · 16/01/2008 19:18

I wonder how many cancer ops could have been done for that. I wonder how many childless couples. Sickening.

tigermoth · 16/01/2008 19:21

But leaving the pay out aside, would you really want her life?

AFAIK, she is not well enough to work, will probably never work as an actress again anyway, and her mobility is seriously and permanently impaired.

xtc · 16/01/2008 19:22

No all joking aside I do feel sorry for her.

(Especially as she's married to that 'orrible bloke)

Shaniece · 16/01/2008 19:22

I'm not a fan of Ms Ash, I only remember her in Men behaving badly and remember thinking she couldn't act - well not as good as Caroline Quentin- BUT I'm sure Leslie Ash didn't WANT to break her ribs and didn't WANT to catch a life threatening superbug - leave the girl alone.

lulumama · 16/01/2008 19:22

wow, so much compassion here for a woman who almost lost her life and her mobility......if she was a regular woman, with a regular life, i don;t think anyone would be querying the pay out.

Shaniece · 16/01/2008 19:23

exactly Lulumama.

Wotzsaname · 16/01/2008 19:35

Well it puts a spin on others that have long term disabilities, illnesses from the NHS's mistakes and consider their moral stance as to what to do.

I think there should be a max amount any individual can claim.

Millions of pounds of NHS cash meant for patient care on is being used to cover the fees of lawyers pursuing medical negligence claims.

I'm not sure what the yearly total is for each county but I am sure after doing some googling, this amount would cover all the yearly total payed by some NHS Trust in one district to all its cases.

Sorry I am a tax payer, but this is madness!

Nothing to do with her, just a rant in general.

Wotzsaname · 16/01/2008 19:46

this woman got £13,000 about 2 years ago
'Her claim was a success and included compensation for the antibiotics she was prescribed as well as lost earnings as she was only covered by statutory sick pay.'

bet she's pissed off!!

here

Shaniece · 16/01/2008 19:49

A friend of my Sisters was awarded £2.6 million pounds by our NHS trust because she gave birth to a severely brain damaged child which was the fault of the incompetent midwife. It took 10 years though .

Anyway, point is, the couple in question are not rich celebs just people like you and I - but he (her DH) hired one of the best medical lawyers in the country. He has a good job she is a SAHM.

ruty · 16/01/2008 19:53

It isn't fair because many people contract superbugs in hospital and no way are they going to get anything like that amount. And they are rich already. I don't actually believe, even if you take voice overs and ads into account [voice overs she can still do anyway] that she would have lost 5 million in earnings. It is because she can afford a top notch lawyer. Very poor.
