a aparagraph from the guardian article:
"This is all to do with the learning culture in schools. It is a consequence of a child-centred education system which tells people they can become pop stars, high court judges or brilliant TV presenters or infinitely more competent heads of state without ever putting in the necessary work or having the natural ability. "
maybe charles was alluding to the "people who know people" culture of some middle class professions or even how having a middle class background and 10 A*'s will get youinto Oxford however a perso with the same qualifications and no bentley wouldnt have a chance.
i think he inadvertantley chastised himself in that being born into a position doesnt mean you are qualified or able to do it well. which is the same for a lot of people.
however to wrap that up in a "know your place - no aaspirations please" package was seriously wrong. although am not totally convinced that that is not the media hype rather than charles.
hope is the greatest gift you can give a child.
my daughter is 11. she is partially deaf - she cant sing to save her life - should i tell her that now? stop singing in your bedroom custardette you will never have it as a career.
no my daughter at aged 11 want to be something to do with computers as a job, but in fantasy land which exists inside chidlrens heads she want to be avril lavigne and it hink i should let her.
however lets consider if she wanted to be a princess at ages 6. i should have told her that only people who are born into royalty or marry into royalty can be princesses so get that net curtain off your head
my 15 yr old son want to be a carpenter nothing else - there are no delusions of grandure there
my 11 year old son wants to be a racing driver "now custardson, being a racing driver isn't realistic. you should seriously consider talking to Browny across the street who could teach you how to drive motors fast - but just dont let the bizzies catch you"
hope is the greatest gift. realism stinks especially if your reality is that getting a job on more than minimum wage isnt very fucking likely
