Covid testing

I think my baby just had covid as he had all the symptoms and my husband tested positive. Fine, looked after him, isolated him for 10 days, but didn't get him tested. I'm getting so much grief from health care professionals we have been in contact with for some other reasons but also a cough that's been going on for months for not testing him. I can't or couldn't see the point, other than more accurate statistics. He's been through a really rough period lately and I just didn't want him (and us) to have to go through the distress of shoving the swab up his nose (again). Am I in the wrong here?

If you were isolating anyway then I think it was totally reasonable not to swab
